Job description

Description
The purpose of this position is to provide location specific recommendations, whether at the store, market or customer level, in support of Real Estate, Operations, Marketing, BAR, Emerging Business, Loss Prevention, Human Resources, alternative business concepts, IS/TS, and merchandising initiatives with a focus on automation and self-service for our business partners. This allows the team to continue to take on additional workload with a small head-count.
Example: Optimize store layouts, merchandising changes based on shifting demographics surrounding our stores, assisting with site selection for new stores, developing applications/programs/processes with a focus on automation for the business partner.
The impact this position has on Publix is directly related to the success of our stores/initiatives. Location is extremely important in success.
Responsibilities include:
  • Analysis & Report Automation: Maintain/develop a self-serve environment that allows department-specific users to exploit Spatial Data Science & GIS' expertise using developed applications that provide data-backed solutions to the asked business question(s).
  • Research, summarize, analyze, synthesize, and visualize multiple datasets from internal sources (BAR, IS, RE, CRM, MBA, CI, LP...etc.) and external sources (competition, sales, demographics, purchase behaviors, customer data...etc.) into a comprehensive final deliverable (report, presentation, infographic, map, story-map...etc.) that enables decision makers to quickly advance our business backed by data driven decision-making.
  • Support the innovation and enable the Spatial Data Science & GIS Team to maintain a high level of awareness of location-based data, systems, processes.
  • Manage existing contracts and renewals to ensure Publix is not in breach of contract, and there is no lapse in data/service providers
  • Train GIS Analysts on Location Analytics and the skillsets needed to progress into a Location Analytics Developer (spatial statistics, Alteryx, existing methodologies/processes...etc.)
  • Dedicating time to Marketing innovation and quality improvement.
  • managing special Marketing related assignments, which can include but is not limited to: project management, executing reporting and presenting results to executive leadership.

Year End Bonus
As a year-end bonus to associates, Publix issues one month's extra pay (pro-rated in the first year) each year if associate remains employed through issue date of the bonus check that year. This is calculated as a 13th month of pay in the Potential Annual Pay with Bonus line above.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Geography, Geographic Information Systems, Analytics, Information Technology, Computer Science, Statistics, Data Science, Engineering, or another analytical discipline from an accredited college or university
  • 3 years of geography, GIS, analytics, computer science, or similar analytics field work-related experience AND
  • 1 Year experience developing analytical systems, tools, or programs AND
  • 1 Year experience writing R/Python code or similar functionality within other statistical/GIS tools
  • Ability to develop and automate data-driven recommendations for strategic business partners with advanced technology, tools, systems, and data
  • In-depth knowledge of demographic datasets and Location Analytics
  • Critical/strategic thinking, problem solving, team-work, innate curiosity, adaptability
  • Decision-making, project management
  • Communication (verbal/written), persuasiveness, interpersonal/emotional intelligence
  • Advanced software knowledge of ESRI (ArcMap, ArcGIS Pro, ArcCatalog, ArcGIS Online)
  • Basic skills in Python/extensions
  • Basic knowledge of Alteryx, Alteryx Server, & R
  • Willingness to travel up to one week at a time with overnight stays.
  • Ability to work a variable work schedule as needed including nights, holidays, weekends, and extended hours to meet deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications
  • MBA or Masters in Geography, Geographic Information Systems, Analytics, Information Technology, Computer Science, Statistics, Data Science, Engineering, or another analytical discipline from an accredited college or university.
  • 5 or more years of geography, GIS, analytics, computer science, or similar analytics field work-related experience AND
  • 3 Years' experience developing analytical systems, tools, or programs AND
  • 3 Years' experience writing R/Python code or similar functionality within other statistical/GIS tools AND
  • Experience with distributed big data tools and processes
  • Any combination of the following: GISP, ESRI Certification, Alteryx Certification, Data Science Certificate
  • In-depth knowledge of existing Publix business units, processes, data storage/retrieval processes
  • Expert software knowledge of ESRI (ArcMap, ArcGIS Pro, ArcCatalog, ArcGIS Online)
  • Intermediate skills in Python/extensions
  • Advanced knowledge of Alteryx, Alteryx Server, & R
  • Advanced knowledge of Big Data and cloud-based machine learning and artificial intelligence tools such as Microsoft Azure, Hive, Presto or Hadoop
  • Advanced knowledge of Publix business systems, including: PIMS, PPMS, EDW. Marketing Systems: ECMS, MCMS, Marketing Analytics DB (MADb) SQL Server, Geospatial Data Sources, Acxiom InfoBase, MRM Resource Management Tool
