Job description

PLEASE NOTE THAT YOU MUST HAVE 5-10 YEARS EXPERIENCE WITH LARGE 3-PHASE 208VAC- 480VAC UPS'S. PLEASE DO NOT APPLY IF YOU DO NOT HAVE THIS EXPERIENCE.

We are seeking a UPS (Uninterruptible Power System) Technician to join our team in the critical power industry for maintenance and repairs for all critical power equipment. The UPS Technician is responsible for managing and performing the maintenance and repair of all critical power equipment, installing battery management systems, and performing battery testing within the region. This individual teams with other Service Engineers and other cross-functional departments to achieve the optimal functioning level for the company. This individual will also assist with training entry-level field service technicians as required.

Job Requirements:

· Minimum of 5 years of experience servicing, troubleshooting, installing and maintaining critical UPS power equipment and battery systems.

· Ability to communicate effectively with audiences that include but are not limited to management, coworkers, clients, vendors, contractors, and visitors.

· Job related technical knowledge necessary to complete the job.

  • Travel, including overnight trips, mostly during the week but can be for extended periods of time as required.
  • Must be able to be badged at client sites per strict regulations and background checks.

· Must clear extensive background check. Ability to attend to detail and work in a time-conscious and time-effective manner.

· Ability to meet the demands of a 24/7 operations facility, including being on-call and working weekends as necessary.

  • Experience with testing >/= 100KW UPS systems and batteries.
  • Experience in performing capacitor and diode replacements in battery chargers.
  • Experience in handling and replacing flooded cell/VRLA batteries.
  • Experience in performing battery capacity testing a plus.
  • Experience with working on 12 to 480 volts DC, 120 to 480 AC.
  • Must be able to work unsupervised.
  • Familiar with NEC Standards and electrical codes.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Must be able to pass a drug screen. and background check.
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs.

Job Duties:

  • Responsible for the timely maintenance and repairs of all critical power equipment to ensure full operability 24/7.
  • Performs commissioning-focused design reviews, prepares commissioning test procedures and reports, coordinates and oversees on-site testing.
  • Prioritizes and complete work order requests to Service; oversees each job is performed at a high level of skill and with optimal customer service.
  • Must be able to discuss with technical support, problems related to maintenance or operation of equipment.
  • Establishes and maintains key business relationships with a diverse network of vendors around the region.
  • Perform scheduled trainings with customers and service technicians.
  • Leads, trains, and guides direct reports and ensures the appropriate resources are available to perform job tasks.
  • Assesses current Facility Services processes and programs and recommends solutions to improve operability.
  • Ensures excellent customer service internally and externally to address complaints and resolve problems.
  • Leads the development of Methods of Procedures (MOPs) and Scopes of Work (SOW).
  • Perform basic operation training with customers in a classroom setting.
  • When not involved in scheduled preventive maintenance, emergency response, equipment start-up and/or field modification, UPS Technicians will occasionally train at the company's main office testing equipment or rebuilding older systems.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Technical university/associates degree, military power electrical training program, or an electrical apprenticeship with an electronic certification program
  • Valid Driver's License with a clean driving record.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication.
  • Prior experience and / or knowledge in the repair and maintenance of multiple leading UPS brands.
  • High competency in delegation, priority setting, problem solving and process management.
