Job description

Business Development Representative - Southeast Texas & Louisiana Region

Territory: Beaumont, Port Arthur, Orange, Lake Charles, Baton Rouge, Lafayette, and the surrounding Louisiana industrial corridors

Where Gulf Coast Grit Meets Real Opportunity

Across Southeast Texas and Louisiana, industry runs deep — from refineries and petrochemical plants to fabrication shops and shipyards. We’re looking for a Business Development Representative who can build lasting relationships in communities where a handshake still matters, and reliability isn’t optional.

If you know how to work a refinery gate, navigate plant projects, talk shop with fabricators, and earn trust in the field, this role will feel like home.

About North Shore Steel

Founded in 1955 and headquartered in Houston with a major operating facility in Beaumont, North Shore Steel is a full-service steel center known for high-quality structural steel products and advanced value-added processing. With over 230 team members across the SSC group (North Shore Steel, Ford Steel, and Greens Bayou Pipe Mill), we serve key industries across the Gulf Coast and beyond — including oil & gas, petrochem, shipbuilding, manufacturing, aerospace, and pressure vessel fabrication.

Our capabilities span plate rolling, burning, beveling, CNC machining, forming, and ASME welding — supported by a strong customer-first culture.

And we live our Core Values every day:
Be Safe Always • Do the Right Thing • Provide Great Service • Take the Initiative • Maximize Your Potential

What You’ll Do (Your Territory, Your Playbook)

This territory blends long-standing customer relationships with high-growth opportunities tied to the Gulf Coast’s industrial landscape. You will:

  • Represent North Shore Steel and the full SSC Group across Southeast Texas and Louisiana.
  • Build strong, trust-based relationships with fabrication shops, OEMs, refineries, EPCs, and contractors.
  • Visit customer sites regularly, from Port Arthur turnarounds to Lake Charles fab shops to Baton Rouge industrial corridors.
  • Identify new opportunities, expand market share, and close business in structural steel, plate processing, Wearalloy (abrasion plate).
  • Provide technical guidance on steel applications, plate processing, and value-added services.
  • Maintain a strong field presence through regular travel, including overnight stays at 30% of the time.
  • Attend industry events, Gulf Coast tradeshows, customer appreciation days, and local networking events.
  • Work closely with inside sales, estimating, and operations teams to ensure smooth handoffs from quote to delivery.
  • Gather market intel on pricing trends, competitor activity, mill lead-times, and customer demand.

Who You Are (Your Make-Up)

  • Comfortable traveling throughout SETX and Louisiana, including overnight trips.
  • 3–10 years of experience in industrial B2B sales, steel service centers, fabrication, or related industries.
  • Strong knowledge of structural steel, plate products, and value-added processing (burning, rolling, CNC, forming, etc.).
  • Skilled at building relationships in industrial environments, from plant managers to shop supervisors to procurement teams.
  • Organized and disciplined in managing your pipeline, activity, and follow-through.
  • Proficient with CRM systems (Salesforce preferred), Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or hands-on industry experience that speaks for itself.

How You Lead and Operate

You’ll succeed here if you:

  • See the big picture and move with purpose, strategic, and boots-on-the-ground.
  • Build trust quickly with authentic communication and follow-through.
  • Take initiative without needing to be asked.
  • Stay plugged into market trends, customer needs, and competitor movements.
  • Bring a strong commercial mindset and a service-driven approach.

Why Join Us?

This is a high-impact territory with tremendous opportunity across two of the most active industrial regions in the country. You’ll have the runway to build something long-lasting while representing a respected, 70-year-old family-owned company.

Ready to Build Real Relationships and Drive Real Growth?

In Southeast Texas and Louisiana, trust and results matter. If you’re ready to own this territory, build meaningful partnerships, and help customers solve real problems with real steel solutions, we want to talk to you.
