Industrial Automation Maintenance Team Lead (Plastics Molding)

Indianapolis, IN โ€ข On-site

Job description

When a molding cell goes down, are you the one everyone calls?

Picture this: an automated injection line halts. A vision sensor flags rejects while a drive trips. You trace signals in the PLC, check a VFD parameter, reseat a sensor connection, and restore the sequence—then log the root cause and line up a long-term fix. If that sounds like your kind of challenge, you’ll excel at Beckman Coulter Life Sciences, part of Danaher.

We build automation that helps scientists answer critical questions faster. You’ll help keep that promise by maximizing reliability across our plastics operations in Indianapolis, IN.

Your impact
  • Champion uptime: plan and execute preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance for injection/blow molding equipment, automation cells, temperature control units, mold controllers, material handling, compressed air, and chilled water systems.
  • Be the multi-discipline problem solver: tackle mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, electrical, and controls issues involving PLCs, VFDs, HMIs, servo drives, vision systems, robotics, automatic sequencing, sensors, circuit boards, temperature controls, and motor protection.
  • Restore supporting hardware by rebuilding pumps, vacuum systems, and heat exchangers when performance drifts.
  • Advance capability: install, modify, validate, and optimize machines, robots, EOATs, vision/controls hardware, sensors, and cabling in partnership with engineering.
  • Lead from the front: set priorities, coordinate daily labor, communicate equipment status to operations, and serve as the escalation point for complex troubleshooting.
What sets you up for success
  • Associate degree or equivalent technical training with 6+ years of industrial maintenance experience.
  • Depth across mechatronics: mechanical, electrical, pneumatics, hydraulics, automation, and industrial controls.
  • Comfort reading electrical/mechanical/hydraulic/pneumatic schematics and OEM documentation.
  • Proven leadership coordinating maintenance programs in fast-paced production.
  • Safety-first mindset, strong problem-solving, clear communication, and mastery of tools, diagnostic equipment, and precision measurement.
Even better if you have
  • Root cause analysis with durable corrective actions; experience driving continuous improvement for reliability, uptime, and product quality.
  • Hands-on background with equipment installs/commissioning, SAT, qualifications/validations, decommissioning, CMMS, spare parts strategy, vendor coordination, and procurement.
  • Expertise in plastics/regulated manufacturing: injection molding, blow molding, robotics, industrial networking, machine controls, and quality systems.
Where and how you’ll work
  • On-site in Indianapolis, IN
  • Member of the Plastics Manufacturing Engineering Team
  • Reports to the Plastics Engineering Manager
  • Physical requirement: ability to lift, move, or carry equipment up to 50 lbs
Core proficiencies
  • Mechanical troubleshooting
  • Industrial automation troubleshooting
  • Injection molding
  • Blow molding
  • Hydraulics
  • Broad troubleshooting capability across systems
