Job description

Overview

Stormont Vail Health is a 586-bed acute care hospital, primary stroke center, and the region’s only level II trauma center, with ~70,000 ED visits annually.

EM pharmacists have been providing 24/7 coverage at Stormont Vail since 2011. The ED pharmacist team consists of two dedicated EM nocturnists, two EM pharmacists who share dayshift and midshift responsibilities, and an ED/ICU float pharmacist. There are also dedicated medication reconciliation technicians to complete med recs on patients being admitted to the hospital.

The ED pharmacy team has a dedicated area located in the center of the ED where they work closely with the multidisciplinary team. Clinical responsibilities include code blue, trauma, stroke, STEMI, procedural sedations, and rapid response calls across the hospital. The providers heavily depend on EM pharmacists for recommendations and shared decision making in all critical patient scenarios, antibiotic stewardship, toxicology, and other staples of emergency medicine pharmacy.

SVH established a PGY2 Emergency Medicine residency program in 2017 and has one resident annually, in addition to two PGY1 pharmacy residents. ED pharmacists share precepting responsibilities for residents.
