Job Description:

This role is designed to provide you with the tools, knowledge, and experience you need to thrive in the world of outdoor recreation management. You'll work closely with our seasoned park management team, gaining hands-on experience in operational planning, personnel management, groundskeeping and facility maintenance, outdoor education/interpretation, and much more.

Responsibilities may encompass various tasks across multiple locations, including grounds and maintenance, housekeeping, visitor activities, overnight lodging accommodations, campgrounds, specialized recreational activities, group conference planning, or interpretive programming. These assignments offer opportunities for learning and skill development in park management functions. Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Seasonal management responsibilities for remote or unstaffed park areas
  • Assist higher-level Superintendents within larger state parks or recreation areas
  • Promote park activities through public speaking and community outreach
  • Oversee daily operations of remote park areas or specific operational departments
  • Ensure preservation, protection, and maintenance of facilities, campgrounds, trails, etc.
  • Perform administrative tasks: data collection, budget monitoring, purchasing
  • Supervise technical seasonal staff
  • Participate in maintenance, construction, and repair activities
  • Conduct park security, compliance, and customer service procedures
  • Serve as point of contact for park improvement projects
  • Collaborate with agencies and partners for information exchange
  • Conduct routine inspections of park grounds and facilities

Positions in this class may work outside normal business hours, including weekends and designated holidays, to respond to complaints or incidences.


Requirements / Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications: Two years of coursework in an institution of higher education AND one year of related experience. Experience (paid or volunteer) in park management or related field may be substituted for education on a year for year basis. Other related fields may include (but not limited to) the following: wildlife, fisheries, natural resource management, environmental science, public relations, tourism/hospitality, business or public administration, education/interpretation, history, cultural resource management, recreation, retail management, criminal justice, and horticulture.

Other: Driver's license is required.
