Job description
Description Snohomish County's Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, Parks Division, is hiring a Facility Maintenance Worker III. This full-time, hands-on role is ideal for someone who enjoys variety, working outdoors, being a mentor, project leadership, and supporting their community. You'll be part of a team that maintains parks, trails, and facilities across the County, including the Evergreen State Fair Park.
We are filling a current opening and creating an eligibility register for future opportunities. As a Facility Maintenance Worker III, you will take on a wide range of responsibilities. Work may include building repairs and maintenance, such as: carpentry, painting, plumbing, masonry, irrigation, and structural inspections, along with groundskeeping and event support.
You will operate and maintain equipment that ranges from pickup trucks and trailers to forklifts, boom lifts, tractors, loaders, graders, compactors, backhoes, chainsaws, and rigging equipment. This role also carries the important responsibility of representing Snohomish County Parks as a visible ambassador to the public. We are looking for candidates who are hardworking, reliable, and committed to customer service.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential, as much of the work is public-facing. You should be comfortable working outdoors in a variety of conditions and must hold a valid State of Washington Driver's License. This position is full-time, scheduled for 40 hours per week, and may include overtime as outlined in the AFSCME Local 109 collective bargaining agreement.

Job Duties STATEMENT OF ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES Perform all the duties of an FMW I and FMW II Takes the initiative to identify problem areas and/or areas for efficiency and makes recommendations to the Maintenance Lead and/or the Maintenance Supervisor to address the problems. Review individual project needs and make a complete recommendation to Maintenance Lead and/or the Maintenance Supervisor, including the best approach to completion of the work, materials, staff, and time needed.
Securing resources to complete the project, as directed. Oversees projects, as directed, for completion of specific projects. Operates a variety of construction and maintenance equipment such as double axel trucks, backhoes, dozers, dump trucks, forklifts, and front-end loaders, large and tractor-mounted mowing machines, and similar equipment.
Performs a variety of specialized building repairs utilizing carpentry, electrical, plumbing, painting, mechanical, and maintenance skills, according to industry standards. Performs a variety of rough and finish carpentry work, including remodeling a variety of structures and building bookcases, cabinets, doors, shelves, stairs, and other wooden structures and fixtures Installs, repairs, and maintains locking systems and door hardware; rekeys and resets locks; builds lock cores; repairs door locking mechanisms; cuts new and replacement keys, and maintains related records of keys issued. Performs a variety of basic electrical repairs such as replacing or repairing broken fixtures, outlets, or switches.
Working under the supervision of a Certified 01, 06, or 07 Electrician, installs new voltage lines from low voltage 24 volts to high 480 three-phase volts. Aligns electronic systems; troubleshoots and repairs solid-state circuitry, solders transistorized components; analyzes and replaces video cameras and monitors a variety of intercom systems, including telephones. Working under the supervision of a facility maintenance technician.
Assists with a variety of welding projects. Inspects, maintains, and services heating, ventilating, HVAC units, and other mechanical equipment which condition the interior atmosphere; lubricates and services pumps, motors, drive belts, and adjusts equipment as necessary; cleans and performs minor repairs on oil burners and boilers, including controllers. Working under the supervision of a facility maintenance technician.
Support the annual fair at the Evergreen State Fair Park, working days before, during, and after to support the event. STATEMENT OF OTHER JOB DUTIES May direct the work of temporary employees, work release inmates, and/or lower-level maintenance personnel as directed. Specialized certification(s) will be required to be obtained and maintained for this position.
This may include one or more, for example, pesticide applicator, CDL Class A, CESCL, backflow certification, playground maintenance certification, and/or Arborist required license/certification to be identified by Maintenance Supervisor. Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Four (4) years' experience performing a variety of skilled building and grounds maintenance or building construction work, OR any equivalent combination of training and/or experience that provides the required knowledge and abilities. Must pass job-related tests.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS A valid Washington State Driver's License is required for employment Possession of or ability to obtain a valid First Aid/CPR card, within one year of employment. Employment will be contingent upon satisfactory results of a post-offer medical examination or inquiry. A written and practical field test may be required.

SUPERVISION Employees report to the Facility Lead Worker or follow the direction of a senior-level facilities maintenance worker or individual project lead, as assigned. Employees at this level are expected to be proficient in a number of different building and construction trade areas, such as carpentry, electrical, plumbing, and frequently operate a variety of construction and maintenance equipment.
The work is performed under general supervision and may be spot checked to ensure timely completion and compliance with work orders, plans, and specs. Specific instructions are usually given for usual or nonroutine tasks. WORKING CONDITIONS The work is performed both indoors and outdoors in all types of weather at work sites throughout the county.
The work may involve working at considerable heights, in confined spaces, from ladders, hydraulic boom trucks, or scaffolding. Employees are exposed to a variety of hazards such as working near traffic, around heavy equipment, and are exposed to dust fumes, hazardous chemicals and inclement weather. Employees are subject to call out to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as necessary to ensure the safety of the public or ensure the integrity of department owned property.
