Job description

Position Summary
Performs routine and some special procedure imaging. Prepares patient for procedures. Assists radiologists when needed. Prepares, operates and cares for the equipment being used. Adheres to established standards of care. Pursues appropriate continuing education. Assumes responsibility for assigned area and duties. Adheres to established customer service programs. Performs other duties as assigned, such as quality assurance. Exercises professional judgments in performance of procedures. Provides patient care.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities Includes the Following:
1. Understands and adheres to the WPH Performance Standards, Policies and Behaviors.
2. Prepares and positions patients correctly for specific examinations, observing different and special requirements for each protocol including proper documentation on images and required body part questionnaires.
3. Assumes responsibilities for designated areas and/or procedures and produces good technical images, reviewing completed scans for quality, completeness for the type of test ordered.
4. Assists physicians during procedures as necessary.
5. Performs quality assurance and calibrations as needed.
6. Will be required to work in case of emergency procedures or when situations arise in the practice.
7. Maintains the cleanliness of all areas, equipment and accessories. Reports all malfunctioning equipment to the practice supervisor.
8. Prints patient CD if needed.
9. Performs routine office tasks, such as answering phones, checking-in patients, obtaining previous reports/films, or other related duties as needed.
10. Notifies front desk staff upon exam completion.
11. Shows radiologist images and calls report to attending physician and documents communication if necessary (STAT readings).
12. May be assigned as instructor or preceptor.
13. Introduces themselves and educates each patient or family member regarding the examination that is ordered.
14. Should be knowledgeable and skillful in providing care, based on age, physical and psychosocial stature of patient populations; pediatric, adolescent, adults and geriatric groups.
15. Attends staff meetings and in-services.
16. Coverage rotation to other outpatient offsite.
17. Duties and hours may change according to the needs of the offsite practices.
18. May be required to work holidays, overtime and/or day, evening and overnight shift coverage to help maintain adequate and safe coverage for the outpatient facility.
19. Performs all other related duties as assigned.
20. Position is eligible for certification incentive.
Education & Experience Requirements
• Must graduate from an accredited radiography school or hospital-based program. Technologist must be certified by the American Registry of Radiological Technologist (ARRT), ARMRIT become ARRT MR certified within 1 year of hire date.
• Continuing education requirements need to be upheld to meet the standards set forth by governing bodies. Current standards are 24 ECE credits over a two-year period depending on year of birth.
• BLS certification through the (AHA) American Heart Association is required or must be completed with 90 days of hire.
• IV certification preferred or by completion of 6-months' orientation.
• MRI safety certification level 2 required yearly.

Physical/Mental Demands/Requirements & Work Environment:
• May be exposed to chemicals necessary to perform required tasks. Any hazardous chemicals the employee may be exposed to are listed in the hospital's SDS (Safety Data Sheet) data base and accessed through the hospital's Intranet site (Employee Tools/SDS Access). A copy of the SDS data base can also be found at the hospital switchboard, saved on a disc.
• Must be able to remain in stationary position 50% of the time
• The person in this position needs to occasionally move about inside all of the MRI zones to access coils, patients and paperwork.
• Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery
• The person in this position frequently communicates with patients who have questions about their bills/financial obligations. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
• Must be able to observe and inspect employees and patients in all of the MRI zones
• Frequently move and position patients for MRI exams
