Position Summary:

This position is responsible for the operation, maintenance and repair of steam boilers, chillers, appurtenant and ancillary equipment, piping and HVAC systems in the Central Plant and the entire facility.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities: includes but not limited to:

  • Ensures the timely repair and maintenance of all related systems
  • Assists with preventative maintenance records for all equipment
  • Safe operation of all associated systems

Secondary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Accomplishes other service work, as directed
  • Contributes to the cleanliness of work area

Minimum Education and Qualifications:

  • Four years experience as a Stationary Engineer, central plant operator or millwright in large boiler plant over 1,000 BHP and 3,600 tons of air-conditioning large boiler plant over 1,000 BHP and 3,600 tons of air-conditioning
  • Must have and maintain an active OE-2, S-2 or S-1 State of Connecticut Occupational License
  • Minimum Type 1 and 2 EPA Refrigerant Recovery Certification
  • Must be able to read, troubleshoot, and work from blueprints, piping diagrams and schematics
  • Must be able to show initiative and respond to various situations without direction

Competencies: Incumbent will master the following competencies while in this position:

  • Sound working knowledge of occupational hazards and safety requirements
  • An understanding of the methods, materials, tools and practices used in central plant maintenance and operations
  • Familiarity with running building management systems
  • Good written and verbal communication skills

Training Requirements:

  • Must be able to pass both the written and verbal technical proficiency test and demonstrate the skills necessary to perform job functions
  • OSHA lockout / Tag out procedures
  • Spill Prevention Control and countermeasure training
  • Respirator trained and fit tested
  • Man lift training, (scissor and boom lift)
  • Forklift training
  • Confined space training
  • Fall protection
  • Responsible to learn all departmental rules and regulations

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs., bend, stoop, reach and climb a ladder
  • Must be able to work in extreme hot and cold environments
  • Must be able to work in a smoking environment
  • Must be able to work various shifts and flexible hours
