Job description

About the Position

The Meter Products & Solutions Specialist serves as TEC's primary technical and commercial resource for Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI), revenue metering applications, communications networks, meter testing equipment, and associated utility technologies. This position provides technical consulting, customer support, account management, training, and product lifecycle support to public power and cooperative utilities.

The Meter Products & Solutions Specialist works closely with utility customers, TEC Account Managers, vendor partners, and internal leadership to develop and implement solutions that improve operational efficiency, metering accuracy, system reliability, and member service. The position requires strong technical expertise, sound judgment, effective communication skills, and the ability to build and maintain productive professional relationships.

Travel of approximately 50%–60%, including overnight travel, is required.

Key Responsibilities
Technical Solutions and Consulting

  • Serve as a subject matter expert for AMI systems, metering technologies, communications networks, and related utility applications.
  • Assess customer operational and technical requirements and develop effective solutions.
  • Support AMI deployments, communications infrastructure, system integration, and network optimization efforts.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues and coordinate resolution activities with customers, manufacturers, and internal resources.
  • Provide consulting services related to AMI planning, communications systems, revenue metering, meter testing technologies, and utility data analytics.
  • Maintain awareness of industry trends, emerging technologies, and regulatory developments affecting electric utilities.

Customer Support and Account Management

  • Serve as the primary technical contact for assigned utility accounts.
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with utility personnel and key stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with TEC Account Managers to support customer initiatives and identify opportunities for growth.
  • Prepare quotations, technical recommendations, presentations, and proposals.
  • Advocate for customer needs while ensuring alignment with TEC objectives and service standards.
  • Maintain regular communication regarding customer activities, opportunities, and support requirements.

Product and Vendor Support

  • Support TEC's strategic partnerships with Landis+Gyr, WECO/Radian, Allegiant, and other approved vendors.
  • Assist customers with product selection, implementation, maintenance, and lifecycle management.
  • Coordinate product demonstrations, evaluations, pilot programs, and training activities.
  • Support warranty claims, Return Material Authorizations (RMAs), calibration activities, and equipment recertification requirements.
  • Serve as a liaison between customers and manufacturers regarding technical and product support needs.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree in Electrical Technology, Electronics Technology, Information Technology, Engineering Technology, or a related field preferred. Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to operate company-owned or personal vehicles for business purposes.
  • Ability to travel approximately 50%–60%, including overnight travel.
  • Ability to professionally represent TEC with customers, vendors, industry organizations, and business partners.
  • Preferred experience in one or more of the following areas:
    • Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI)

Physical Requirements

  • Frequently travels by personal or company vehicle, and occasionally by air, to customer sites, meetings, and events; must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and be able to operate a motor vehicle safely. 
  • Sits for extended periods while driving or traveling, often for several hours at a time. 
  • Regularly lifts, carries, and positions equipment, product samples, and marketing materials weighing up to 25 pounds; occasionally moves heavier items with assistance or mechanical aid. 
  • Stands, walks, bends, stoops, kneels, and reaches to set up displays, load and unload materials, and navigate customer facilities and event spaces. 
  • Uses hands and fingers to operate electronic devices, handle materials, and complete written and digital documentation; performs repetitive motions associated with keyboard, tablet, and phone use. 
  • Has close, distance, and computer vision sufficient to read documents and screens, operate a vehicle, and observe customer environments. 
  • Frequently communicates in person, by phone, and through electronic devices; must be able to exchange accurate information with customers and colleagues during meetings and presentations. 
  • Operates a computer, mobile phone, tablet, and other electronic devices daily for extended periods. 
  • Works in varied settings including office, vehicle, customer sites, and event venues; may be exposed to outdoor weather conditions and varying noise levels during travel and on-site visits.
