Neurosurgical & Operating Room Operations Lead

A Brief Overview

Serving as the overnight clinical and operational authority for the Operating Room (including the neurosurgical service line), this position exercises independent judgment and advanced specialized expertise to manage overnight neurosurgical operations, readiness, and quality assurance. Operating with a high degree of autonomy, the Specialist serves as the primary technical advisor to attending neurosurgeons during complex cranial and spinal procedures, manages critical high-value assets and vendor relationships, and directs overnight resource allocation to ensure optimal patient outcomes and service line efficiency.

What you will do

• Manages and directs the overnight neurosurgical service line operations, independently ensuring
• absolute readiness for all emergent, trauma case including all surgical specialty readiness for overnight emergency cases
• Exercises independent discretion to dynamically allocate, prioritize, and adjust specialized neurosurgical equipment and technical resources in response to shifting overnight trauma demands.
• Serves as the designated overnight subject matter expert (SME) and strategic consultant to attending neurosurgeons regarding specialized instrumentation, stereotactic navigation systems, intraoperative microscopes, and advanced technology.
• Acts as the administrative point of contact for overnight medical staff, troubleshooting operational bottlenecks and optimizing workflow efficiency within the dedicated OR suite.
• Provides advanced clinical consultation during complex neurosurgical cases, proactively identifying
• technical or equipment anomalies and implementing immediate corrective strategies to safeguard patient safety.
• Evaluates and audits overnight neurosurgical setups, sterile field integrity, and adherence to regulatory standards, holding the independent authority to halt a procedure or mandate corrective action if safety or sterility standards are breached.
• Formulates and executes quality assurance protocols for the overnight neuro service line, identifying operational trends and reporting findings directly to Surgical Services leadership to drive continuous improvement.
• Manages and oversees the procurement, inventory tracking, and structural integrity of high-value neurosurgical implants, specialized instrumentation, and vendor-managed tissue or hardware for all overnight cases.
• Authorizes and coordinates the emergency acquisition or replacement of specialized neurosurgical supplies and instrumentation during off-hours, negotiating directly with on-call vendors.
• Evaluates new neurosurgical technologies and instrumentation, providing formal technical assessments and strategic purchase recommendations to the Operating Room Manager.
• Develops, updates, and custom-configures specialized surgeon preference cards, operational guidelines, and standardized protocols for complex neurosurgical procedures to streamline overnight efficiency.
• Designs, implements, and delivers specialized training, competencies, and educational resources for cross-covering operating room staff to ensure peak readiness for neurosurgical emergencies.

Education Qualifications

• High School Diploma required
• Graduate of a nationally or regionally accredited educational program for surgical technologists required
• Must annually complete 15 hours of continuing education to remain eligible to practice as a
• surgical technologist required

Experience Qualifications

• 3+ years working as a Surgical Technologist Neurosurgery experience

• Maintains good habits of personal hygiene
• Demonstrated knowledge of neurosurgical anatomy, procedures, instrumentation, implants, and equipment
• Ability to anticipate the needs of neurosurgeons during complex cranial and spinal procedures
• Proficiency in maintaining sterile technique during advanced neurosurgical cases

Licenses and Certifications

• CST – Certified Surgical Technologist
• Holds and maintains a Certified Surgical
• Technologist (CST) credential

If you are hired at Holy Name, your final base compensation will be determined based on factors such as employment status (Full/Part-Time or Per Diem) skills, education, and/or experience. In addition to those factors – we believe in the importance of pay equity and consider any internal equity of our current team members as a part of any final offer. Pay Range: $83,000 - $103,700
