An overnight medical assistant has administrative and clinical duties during the overnight shift at a 24-hour medical facility. In this career, you usually work between the hours of 11 pm and 7 am. Your responsibilities are to prepare patients for exams, procedures, treatments, and other clinical tasks, take and monitor vitals, give patients medications, obtain medical histories, explain procedures and treatment plans, and assist physicians and nurses with other tasks. Overnight medical assistants also record medical information to update electronic medical records, maintain medical equipment, and perform some tests, tasks, and exams, like blood draws and wound cleaning.
