Description:
The Idaho Department of Fish and Game is seeking a Fishery Technician. This position will be located at our field station located in Naples, ID. This is a temporary position and is expected to work up to 40 hours per week. Housing is available for the employee only. No pets.

The primary focus of this position will be to collect biological data on Burbot and other native species in the Kootenai basin. Work will be conducted on the mainstem and tributaries of the Kootenai River in both Idaho and southern British Columbia. Most time will be spent sampling with hoop nets and the remaining time will be spent doing various activities to monitor fish populations within the basin including but not limited to boat electrofishing, maintaining a passive array of sonic telemetry receivers, remote PIT tag antennas, and various maintenance of sampling equipment.
General Information
Some positions may travel to remote locations for data collection and maintenance activities; require the physical ability to walk and backpack for several hours over rugged terrain and along water ways; stand and work in cold water for up to 10 hours per shift; hitch and pull trailers; lift and carry up to 60+ pounds with occasional lifting and carrying up to 100 pounds for short distances; and work in extreme weather conditions. Operate motorized equipment including, boats, tractors, landscaping equipment, snowmobiles, and/or UTVs. Evening, weekend, and holiday work may be required. Frequent (overnight) in-state travel may be required.
Qualifications
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Must be at least 18 years old
• Possess a valid driver's license
• Experience following oral and written instructions, policies, and procedures
• Some knowledge of biology, zoology, botany, conservation biology or closely related field
• Some knowledge of life history, anatomy, and ecology of various fish species
• Experience recording, summarizing, and analyzing scientific data
• Experience interacting with the public in a professional setting
• Experience operating ATVs, boats, snowmobiles, tractors, trailers
• Experience diagnosing and repairing minor mechanical problems
