Overnight Kaiser Rn information

What is an overnight Kaiser RN?

Overnight Kaiser RNs are registered nurses who work night shifts at Kaiser Permanente healthcare facilities. Their primary responsibilities include monitoring patients, administering medications, and providing care throughout the night when staffing is typically reduced. They play a crucial role in ensuring patient safety and continuity of care during overnight hours. These nurses must be skilled in handling emergencies, communicating with physicians, and supporting patients and their families during nighttime hospital stays.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an overnight Kaiser RN?

To thrive as an Overnight Kaiser RN, you need a solid clinical background, active RN licensure, and experience in acute care or hospital settings. Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems like Epic, medication administration tools, and hospital protocols is essential. Outstanding communication, resilience, and the ability to remain calm under pressure help you effectively manage patient care during challenging overnight shifts. These skills ensure patient safety, efficient workflows, and high-quality care delivery in a demanding hospital environment.

What are some unique challenges faced by overnight Kaiser RNs, and how can they successfully manage them?

Overnight Kaiser RNs often encounter challenges such as disrupted sleep schedules, reduced on-site support staff, and managing patient care when resources like ancillary services are less available. To succeed, many nurses prioritize effective time management, maintain clear communication with the night-shift team, and develop strategies for self-care to counteract fatigue. Building strong relationships with fellow night-shift staff also helps ensure a collaborative environment and smoother transitions during shift changes. Adapting to the unique pace and workflow of overnight shifts is essential for delivering high-quality patient care.

Job description

Our Roots
The Reno-Sparks Indian Colony represents descendants of three Great Basin Indigenous peoples: the Numu (Northern Paiute), Newe (Western Shoshone), and Washeshu (Washoe). These communities lived in harmony with the land for generations before European contact, following seasonal cycles and forming small, efficient social groups for survival.
Each group's name means "The People" in their own language, reflecting their deep cultural identity and connection to the Earth. They maintained strong traditions, respected neighboring tribes, and engaged in trade throughout the region.
Today, the Reno-Sparks Indian Colony continues to honor these traditions while supporting the well-being, culture, and future of its tribal community.
Core Role
As a Clinical Registered Nurse, you'll deliver professional nursing services that support patients in maintaining or improving health through thoughtful assessment, timely care, and clear documentation.
Key responsibilities include:
- Interview patients/families and coordinate with physicians and clinic staff to determine needed care
- Perform screening/triage and interpret findings to identify normal vs. abnormal conditions
- Provide treatments, respond to emergencies, administer medications, and document patient status and responses
- Educate and counsel patients/families on preventive, curative, and rehabilitative care
- Help develop/evaluate standards of care and audit procedures
- Supervise LPNs and medical support staff as assigned
- Maintain patient and program records; follow RSIC attendance and punctuality policies
Required qualifications/skills:
- ADN or BSN from an accredited program; current Nevada RN license
- Strong clinical organization, sound judgment, and effective communication
- Computer proficiency and excellent customer service
- Valid Nevada driver's license, reliable transportation; meet physical demands
- Current CPR certification; pass TB test
Apply to bring your Clinical Registered Nurse skills to our Reno clinic team.
A Typical Shift
Your day runs Monday-Friday, 8:00 am-5:00 pm in our Reno, Nevada clinic. You'll start by reviewing the day's schedule and any overnight updates, then move between patient-facing time and coordination with providers and support staff. Expect a steady rhythm of brief check-ins, focused follow-through, and charting that keeps care plans current. You'll also make time for patient questions, family conversations, and quick team touchpoints to keep the clinic aligned. Pay range: $36.75-$45.20.
Your Coverage
Medical, Dental, and Vision insurance; 401(k); Life Insurance; and Paid Time Off.
Please Note: Hiring preference is provided to qualified members of the Reno-Sparks Indian Colony followed by members of other federally recognized tribes. Reno-Sparks Indian Colony requires any designated candidate to complete a pre-employment criminal background check, drug screen, and confirmation of professional references.
