Job description

Job Summary:

The BSG Fiber Construction Technician plays a critical role in expanding and maintaining i3 Broadband's fiber optic network infrastructure. This position is responsible for the safe, efficient, and high-quality installation of conduit systems that support broadband services for residential and business customers. The successful candidate will perform construction and installation work in a productive, cost-effective manner while adhering to safety standards, quality expectations, and customer service commitments.

Key Responsibilities:

Installation of Conduit Systems and Project Execution

  • Perform the installation of conduit systems for fiber optic infrastructure, ensuring all installations meet regulatory standards and customer requirements.
  • Read general conduit system layouts from blueprints.
  • Collaborate with team members to ensure the timely completion of projects within the scope and specifications provided.
  • Complete appropriate paperwork/system logs as required and update tickets in i3’s ticketing system.
  • Strive to achieve optimal productivity while minimizing material waste, ensuring projects are completed on time.

Quality Assurance/Safety Compliance

  • Follow company guidelines and industry best practices to deliver the highest quality service, ensuring system reliability and customer satisfaction.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and practices to maintain a safe working environment and prevent workplace accidents.
  • Must adhere to USDOT rules and regulations.

Customer Interaction

  • Communicate professionally with customers, addressing any questions or concerns related to installations and always providing excellent service.
  • Build and maintain positive customer relationships by providing clear project updates, explaining work processes, and ensuring customer satisfaction throughout the installation process.

Equipment and Tools Management

  • Ensure proper use, maintenance, and storage of tools and equipment to ensure efficiency and longevity.
  • Perform vehicle upkeep and maintenance to keep company vehicles clean, fueled, and in good working order; report problems promptly.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or GED, required.
  • Previous experience in telecommunications construction, utility construction, landscaping, excavation, directional boring, or other outdoor construction trades is preferred but not required. Candidates with mechanical aptitude and experience operating equipment in a safe and productive manner are encouraged to apply.
  • Experience operating construction equipment such as trenchers, vibratory plows, mini excavators, skid steers, or other utility installation equipment is preferred.
  • Must be able to obtain and keep a DOT Medical Card.


Skills and Competencies:

  • Follow states "Call Before You Dig" requirements and underground utility locating procedures to prevent damage to existing infrastructure and ensure workplace safety.
  • Ability to work well with others as part of a team.
  • Must be computer proficient.
  • Positive, can-do attitude.
  • Willingness and desire to work in a challenging environment while maintaining a high level of attention to detail and quality results.
  • Possess good time management skills.
  • Willing to train, accept feedback, and learn the job according to i3 Broadband standards.
  • Operate a company or personal vehicle to travel between job sites, client locations, or meetings as needed for business purposes.
  • Employees are required to hold a valid driver’s license and maintain a driving record that complies with company insurance requirements.
  • Knowledge of underground marking systems and ability to follow underground marking requirements across different states we serve.


Working Conditions:

  • This position requires regional travel, including overnight stays for multiple consecutive days based on project needs.
  • Must be available to work occasional overtime and weekends.
  • Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, etc.).
  • Capable of standing, walking, bending, stooping, and kneeling for extended periods.
  • Ability to climb ladders, enter confined spaces, and work at heights if required.
  • Manual dexterity to operate tools, equipment, and construction machinery safely.
  • Visual and auditory ability to detect hazards, read diagrams, and follow instructions.
  • Must be able to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) such as hard hats, gloves, vests, and safety glasses.
  • Frequently lifts, carries, pushes, or pulls materials and equipment weighing up to 75 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation.
