Job description

Are you passionate about animals and enjoy working with people of all ages? The Connecticut Humane Society is seeking a Per-Diem Humane Educator to deliver engaging, interactive programs that inspire compassion for pets. This position is responsible for facilitating humane education programs for youth and adults, both onsite and in the community, as well as leading educational tours of CHS’ Pet Resource Centers.

The Humane Educator will create a positive and inclusive learning environment while delivering established program content to a variety of audiences. Responsibilities include preparing program materials, setting up and breaking down program spaces, and ensuring the safety and engagement of all participants.

Additional duties include maintaining program supplies, staying informed on current animal welfare topics and organizational initiatives, and providing feedback to help improve programming. Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to engage audiences of varying ages. Ability to maintain a safe and appropriate learning environment. Must be organized, reliable, and able to follow established program curricula. Ability to work collaboratively with staff and volunteers

This role requires frequent travel to offsite program locations.

This position is per diem which means there are no set days or hours.  The candidate will work with the manager to sign up for classes as they get posted. CHS’s educational programs occur year-round, Monday-Friday, 7am-4pm, with occasional evening programsThis position is not benefit eligible.

Experience Required:

  • Have an associate’s degree or at least 2 years completed towards a 4-year degree.
  • Have the ability to instruct students of varying ages from early elementary to high school in a variety of educational settings.
  • Valid drivers license, ability to be insured under our policy and access to own transportation required.
  • Strong communication

Technical Skills Required:

  • Microsoft Office Suite, Basic audiovisual equipment setup (projectors, Smartboards, microphones, virtual presentation tools such as Zoom and Google meets
