Overnight Counselor for Campers with Developmental Disabilities
Location: Camp Campbell Gard
FLSA Status: seasonal, Non-Exempt
Pay: $380/ Per week
Status: Full-Time (Seasonal)
POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Summer Camp Director, an overnight counselor for campers with developmental disabilities is responsible for providing assistance and care to campers with disabilities. Assistance may include physical, emotional and/or social care at daily activities and games. The position runs from June 2026 through August 2026.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  1. Effectively assist in daily games and activities that fit the camper's needs, interests, and developmental levels at camp.
  2. Maintain a 2:1 ratio with campers.
  3. Provide physical, emotional, and/or social assistance to campers.
  4. Be familiar with the camper's needs, medical conditions, behaviors, and/or dietary restrictions/concerns and act according to the directions of the camper's parents/guardians.
  5. Assist with cabin activities, which include horse trail rides and zip-lining.
  6. Participate in activities with children, which includes swimming daily in our pool.
  7. Ability to assist campers with a variety of needs such as homesickness, behavior management, and conflict resolution.
  8. Support and implement a work environment that puts campers first.
  9. Follow safety guidelines.
  10. Implement all ACA and Camp Campbell Gard rules and regulations.
  11. Work effectively as a team with all Camp Campbell Gard staff.
  12. Participate in evening programming and campfires.
  13. Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Be at least 18 years of age.
  • First Aid and CPR Certifications or willingness to obtain.
  • Must have a desire and willingness to work with children.
  • Previous work experience with individuals with disabilities is preferred.
  • Must be able to adapt quickly and have a quick response.
  • Demonstrate good judgment.

  • Requires long periods of time outdoors.
  • Ability to walk and stand for long periods of time.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills with families, children, and other staff.
  • Position may require bending, sitting, leaning, kneeling, and walking.
  • Must be creative and enthusiastic to staff, campers, and families.
  • Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical situations and physical ability to act quickly in an emergency.
  • Ability to maintain emotional control and composure in turbulent, challenging and changing conditions.
