Veterinary Assistant | The Center for Bird and Exotic Animal Medicine | $20.29-$25.00/hr DOE | Full-Time | 4x10 Schedule | Bothell, WA
Compensation
  • $20.29-$25.00 per hour, depending on experience
  • Quarterly bonus pay
  • Overnight shift differential: $1.25/hour (when applicable)
Schedule
  • Full-time position
  • Four 10-hour shifts per week
  • Open availability preferred
  • One weekend day required

Responsibilities
  • Assist with patient check-in and obtain medical histories from owners
  • Prepare, clean, and disinfect medical equipment between appointments
  • Administer medications and vaccinations as directed by veterinarians
  • Assist with patient preparation for surgical procedures
  • Monitor patients during recovery and provide post-operative nursing care
  • Safely handle, restrain, and comfort avian and exotic animal patients
  • Maintain accurate medical records and examination notes
  • Feed, bathe, and monitor hospitalized patients
  • Collect laboratory samples, including blood and urine specimens
  • Educate clients on treatment plans, post-care instructions, and general pet care
  • Stock and prepare examination and treatment areas
  • Change bandages, bedding, and kennel materials as needed
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization throughout the hospital
  • Communicate effectively with pet owners regarding patient care and recovery
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Previous experience in a veterinary practice highly preferred
  • Experience handling avian and exotic species preferred but not required
  • Strong verbal communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced clinical environment
  • Comfortable handling and working with a variety of animal species
  • Team-oriented with a willingness to learn and grow
  • Fluent English speaking and reading skills required
Professional Development
For Veterinary Assistants:

For Licensed Veterinary Technicians:
  • $1,500 annual continuing education budget
  • 40 paid CE hours annually
  • Mentorship from a Veterinary Technician Specialist (VTS) for those pursuing specialty certification
