Job Title: Operator – Substation Civil Sitework Crew

Department: Operations

Position Summary

Cobalt Civil is seeking a skilled and safety-focused Equipment Operator to support the substation civil sitework and foundation crews on utility and civil projects. This position is responsible for operating heavy equipment safely and efficiently while also assisting crews with general labor duties as needed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate heavy equipment including excavators, skid steers, dozers, and other construction equipment
  • Support civil sitework and foundation construction activities including excavation, grading, trenching, and backfilling
  • Assist crews with general labor duties including digging, material handling, site cleanup, and concrete work as needed
  • Load, unload, and organize tools, materials, and equipment
  • Perform daily equipment inspections and basic preventative maintenance
  • Follow all company safety policies and OSHA requirements
  • Maintain clean and organized work areas and equipment
  • Work closely with foremen and crew members to maintain safe and efficient operations
  • Travel Monday through Friday to project sites as required

Qualifications

  • Previous heavy equipment operating experience required
  • Experience in utility, foundation, or civil construction preferred
  • Ability to read grade stakes and work safely around underground utilities
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather and terrain conditions
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical labor as needed
  • Strong work ethic, reliability, and attention to safety
  • Valid driver's license required
  • Must pass pre-employment drug screening and background check

Preferred but Not Required Qualifications

  • CDL preferred
  • OSHA 10 certification preferred
  • Experience operating GPS-equipped or specialty construction equipment a plus

Work Environment

Outdoor construction environment with exposure to varying weather, uneven terrain, noise, and heavy equipment. Overnight travel Monday through Friday, overtime, and occasional weekend work may be required based on project needs.
