Job description

Join a group of passionate advocates on our mission to improve the lives of youth! Rite of Passage Team is hiring Health Teacher at Silver Oak Academy in Keymar, Maryland
Silver Oak Academy is located on a scenic 78-acre campus surrounded by sprawling corn fields, beautiful woods full of local wildlife and foliage, a football stadium, an athletic center (gymnasium, padded wrestling room, a fully equipped weight room & more), a Tech Center, student housing for 96 youth, and an academic building all just a short commute from Frederick, Baltimore & DC. On site dormitories are available for staff use during their shift and overnight for those with a long commute, or limited transportation.
Pay: starting at $57,000-$70,000 depending on experience and education.

What you will do: OIn this role, you will be primarily responsible for implementing and adhering to the principles of Positive Operational Culture and providing instructional services to students. You will work collaboratively with staff in a supportive fashion, exhibiting a positive attitude toward students, staff and the program. Teachers are responsible for developing lesson plans in accordance with curriculum standards, providing direct instruction, and implementing special education supports and accomodations for students. Teachers new to the field are encouraged to apply!
To be considered you should:
    • Possess a current and valid State teaching credential Health and P.E. If only one credential, must have the ability to obtain the other wtihin 90 days of hire.
    • Have a Bachelors Degree.
    • Have related experience working with at-risk youth
    • Teachers New to the field are encouraged to apply!
    • Possess a knowledge of:
      • Instructional strategies and how they can be employed to deliver curriculum and assess student learning
      • Various methodologies and research related to learning and working with at-risk, high school aged youth.
      • Effective classroom management techniques and behavioral management styles that result in understanding of how to manage and teach to various learning styles
    • Have the ability to:
      • Establish a teaching rapport with students, which results in student achievement in all program areas
      • Diagnose, prescribe and evaluate student progress on an ongoing basis
      • Collaborate with staff to deliver consistent curriculum and implement a team approach to working with students
      • Confront inappropriate behavior appropriately and take the necessary action as outlined in the program procedures
    • Be able to pass a criminal background check, drug screen, physical, and TB test.
