Job Overview
This Senior Scientist opportunity is for a dynamic, growth-minded, results-oriented individual interested in leading development of the Ecological Services practice area within the Sediment and Risk Assessment (SRA) Service Line at EHS Support. As a Senior Scientist within our team, you will be joining a high-performance team of risk assessors, toxicologists, ecologists, scientists, and engineers that is focused on providing high-quality technical and strategic solutions to a variety of clients. In this role, you will be responsible for developing and growing our Ecological Services practice area by generating new business opportunities, building and fostering relationships with existing and prospective clients, and expanding the capacity and diversity of technical skillsets and service offerings of the team. You will also support ecological risk assessments for routine and complex scenarios under federal, state and international programs and compensatory services for Natural Resource Damage Assessment (NRDA). You will also be responsible for managing a team of talented professionals and providing mentorship and technical advisement to junior team members. The ideal candidate will have a strong environmental consulting background with demonstrated team-building and business development experience and a proven track record of corresponding sales. This position is remote, with a preference towards the northeast/mid-Atlantic region.
Essential Responsibilities
  • Lead the development and growth of the Ecological Services practice area in coordination with the Service Line Director and Growth Manager, Strategic Director, and other key team members by generating new business opportunities, building and fostering relationships with existing and prospective clients, and expanding the capacity and diversity of technical skillsets and service offerings of the team.
  • Lead the development and expansion of the Ecological Services practice area, including:
    • Wetlands and waterways delineation, permitting, restoration and valuation services
    • Natural resource impact assessments (National Environmental Policy Act [NEPA])
    • Threatened and endangered (T&E) species assessment
    • Biodiversity assessment and biological community assessment
    • Dam removal and river restoration
  • Support the design and implementation of site-specific ecological risk assessments conducted as part of remedial investigations, particularly contaminated sediment investigations, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements under CERCLA, RCRA, or state programs.
  • Support NRDA services, including injury assessment and compensatory restoration planning.
  • Design and implement long-term monitoring programs to evaluate remedy protectiveness.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends, advancements, and emerging issues related to ecological service offering and ecological risk assessment.
  • Participate in technical conferences or engage with industry and regulatory working groups to promote novel approaches and enhance both individual and EHS Support brand recognition.
  • Implement and uphold rigorous quality assurance processes to maintain the highest standards in ecological assessment methodologies and reporting.
  • Oversee multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring timely and successful completion within budget constraints.

Specific Experience and Skills
  • 12-15+ years of environmental consulting experience in ecological services and ecological risk assessment, with a strong track record of successful project outcomes and management.
  • Strong team building and business development experience.
  • Strong leadership and management skills, with extensive experience in mentoring and career development.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills.
  • Strong knowledge of regulations and guidance for remedial investigation and risk assessment under state and federal programs (e.g., RCRA, CERCLA).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

Education and Licenses
  • Master's degree in biology, chemistry, ecology, environmental science, natural resources, toxicology or a related field.
