Software Engineer
We are primarily seeking a Software Engineer III but are open to less experience with the right candidate. The final level and compensation will be determined based on the candidate's experience, skills, and qualifications.

At BioFire Defense we deliver a fully integrated suite of biological agent identification products, including BioFireยฎ FilmArrayยฎ and RAZORยฎ Mk II Systems to the biodefense and first responder community. Our products and services speed up medical results, help people stay healthy, and make communities more secure.
Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled Software Engineer with 4-6 years of professional experience building enterprise-grade C# applications and systems. This role emphasizes solid hands-on development and collaborative engineering with a focus on implementing scalable, reliable solutions. The ideal candidate writes high-quality code, works effectively within an engineering team, and is growing their skills in system design and technical problem-solving.
Key Responsibilities:
  1. Hands-On Development (70%):

  • Design, build, and maintain quality C#/.NET Core applications and services.

  • Implement complex business logic, APIs, and system integrations with external platforms (ERP, MES, Automation, etc.).

  • Write clean, testable, and maintainable code in accordance with team standards.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve defects, bugs, and technical issues in existing systems.

  • Participate in prototyping and technical exploration under guidance from senior engineers.

  1. Collaboration & Communication (15%):

  • Participate in code reviews, giving and receiving constructive feedback.

  • Work closely with product owners, QA, and IS teams to understand and implement business requirements.

  • Communicate progress, blockers, and solutions clearly to team members and stakeholders.

  • Contribute to documentation of systems, APIs, and development processes.

  1. System Design & Continuous Improvement (15%):

  • Contribute to technical discussions and design reviews with awareness of scalability and maintainability.

  • Learn and apply recommended tools, frameworks, and engineering practices.

  • Proactively identify opportunities to improve code quality and development processes.

Required Qualifications:
  • 4-6 years of professional software development experience.

  • 3+ years of hands-on experience with C# and the .NET ecosystem.

  • Working knowledge of .NET Core and modern .NET frameworks.

  • Experience building RESTful APIs and consuming third-party integrations.

  • Solid understanding of relational databases (SQL Server or PostgreSQL) and writing efficient queries.

  • Familiarity with source control workflows (Git) and collaborative development practices.

  • Basic understanding of CI/CD concepts and automated testing.

  • Track record of delivering working, quality software in a team environment.

Soft Skills:
  • Strong problem-solving skills with ability to work through technical challenges independently and collaboratively.

  • Clear written and verbal communication skills.

  • Willingness to receive mentorship and incorporate feedback.

  • Reliability and ownership of assigned work in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with front-end technologies (e.g., JavaScript, Vue.js) for full-stack work.
