Position Overview

This HBITS role supports critical operational functions for the New York State Unemployment Insurance System. The position focuses on database architecture, administration, data modeling, ETL integration, business intelligence, data warehousing, metadata governance, and support for AI/ML data pipelines across multiple enterprise platforms including DB2, Oracle, Snowflake, Red Hat Linux, Cognos Analytics, IBM DataStage, and IBM Cloud Pak for Data/Knowledge Catalog.

Responsibilities

  • Review overnight alerts and monitoring dashboards for any critical issues across all systems (DB2, Oracle, Cognos, DataStage).
  • Check for service requests or incidents related to data management.
  • Prioritize tasks based on urgency and impact.
  • Respond to emails and messages related to data management tasks.
  • Participate in daily stand-up meetings and provide updates on progress.
  • Document all work performed, including changes, issues, and resolutions.
  • Update knowledge base articles as needed.
  • DB2 Administration in bare-metal Red Hat Linux environments, including monitoring performance, reviewing logs, managing backups, performing maintenance, applying patches, and reviewing security.
  • Data Modeling using Erwin Data Modeler, updating models, maintaining consistency, managing version control, and collaborating with analysts and developers.
  • Business Intelligence support in IBM Cognos Analytics, including monitoring report performance, troubleshooting issues, organizing content, and supporting users.
  • Data Warehousing support in Oracle environments including monitoring ETL processes, resolving data quality issues, and tuning database performance.
  • Data Integration support in IBM DataStage including monitoring jobs, resolving failures, modifying job designs, and ensuring performance.
  • Metadata governance tasks in the Knowledge Catalog including updating metadata, monitoring data lineage, enforcing governance policies, and addressing compliance issues.
  • Snowflake Data Warehouse monitoring, pipeline support, query optimization, and performance tuning.
  • AI/ML support including monitoring deployed models, preparing data for training/deployment, and collaborating with data scientists.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years as a Database Architect supporting enterprise systems, analyzing operations, determining structural requirements, and providing database support.
  • Expert Level (7+ years): Able to guide large teams, with extensive industry experience.
  • 6+ years’ experience with DB2, Oracle, and Google Cloud Database Administration, including installation, configuration, performance tuning, backup/recovery, and security on bare metal Linux.
  • 7+ years Red Hat Linux command-line administration, scripting, and troubleshooting.
  • 7+ years Data Modeling with Erwin Data Modeler for OLTP systems.
  • 7+ years IBM Cognos Analytics (Framework Manager, Data Modules, Report Studio, dashboards).
  • 5+ years Oracle, DB2, or BigQuery data warehousing.
  • 5+ years IBM DataStage ETL development.
  • 5+ years IBM Cloud Pak for Data / Knowledge Catalog.
  • 7+ years Snowflake Data Warehouse (data loading, optimization, query development).
  • 7+ years AI/ML experience including data preparation, model deployment, and monitoring.
  • 7+ years collaborative experience working with business analysts, developers, data scientists, and stakeholders.
