Position Overview
VectorNet is seeking an experienced Reality Capture Technician to support LiDAR scanning and CAD production projects throughout Virginia and nationwide.
This role involves terrestrial, mobile, and aerial LiDAR scanning, establishing survey control, processing and registering point clouds, and creating accurate 2D AutoCAD deliverables. The technician will work in construction, retail, and industrial environments and coordinate with project managers, clients, and internal teams.
Following a 90-day onboarding program, the technician is expected to conduct site visits independently. Travel of 50–75%, including overnight travel, is required.

Key Responsibilities -Reality Capture & Field Operations
  • Perform terrestrial, mobile, and aerial LiDAR scanning and field data collection.
  • Operate and maintain laser scanners, drones, total stations, and related equipment.
  • Establish control and tie scan data into applicable coordinate systems.
  • Register, align, and process point clouds using software such as Autodesk ReCap, RIEGL RiSCAN PRO, and Leica Cyclone.
  • Ensure field data is accurate, complete, and properly documented.
  • Follow all safety, equipment, and data-security procedures.
CAD & Project Support
  • Convert point cloud data into accurate 2D AutoCAD as-built drawings.
  • Support architectural, structural, and MEP deliverables.
  • Maintain CAD standards, project documentation, and drawing revisions.
  • Coordinate with project managers and clients to meet project scope, schedule, and quality requirements.
  • Support CAD and Revit workflows as needed.
Required Qualifications
  • 2+ years of LiDAR scanning experience.
  • 2+ years of LiDAR scanning experience in construction and/or retail environments.
  • Willingness to travel 50–75%, including overnight travel.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
  • Ability to pass a background check and drug screening.
Preferred Qualifications
  • LiDAR scanning experience in heavy industrial environments.
  • 2+ years of AutoCAD experience.
  • Knowledge of surveying fundamentals and coordinate systems.
  • Experience with Autodesk ReCap, RIEGL RiSCAN PRO, Leica Cyclone, Revit, or similar software.
  • Familiarity with CAD/BIM and point cloud workflows.
Physical & Work Requirements
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 60 pounds.
  • Ability to walk on uneven surfaces, climb, bend, reach, and crawl as required.
  • Ability to work overtime when necessary.
  • Maintain company equipment and protect client data.
  • Candidates must be located in Virginia, preferably within the greater Richmond area.
