About the Position:
This position is responsible for performing simple and complex sample preparations and extractions, routine laboratory maintenance tasks and simple analyses.

Please note: This position requires working overnight, 10:00PM to 6:00AM.


Specific Responsibilities

  • Sample disposal, assists analysts, Retrieve samples from storage, Store samples in sample cooler

  • Weighing and traying samples under supervision

  • Operate lab instrument/equipment such as pipettes, shakers, centrifuges, pH meters etc;

  • Perform instrument/equipment calibration, maintenance and repair as required;

  • Perform sample preparation - filtration, screening, extraction and digestion;

  • Prepare all required reagents, standards, reference materials, etc;

  • Carry out all required data processing (i.e. calculations, data review, data entry, archival, etc.);

  • Carry out all required record-keeping & documentation;

  • General laboratory clean-up and maintenance, monitor controlled equipment;

  • Clean and maintain glassware and lab ware,

  • Assist in sample flow and archiving as well as data archiving;

  • Perform all required quality control procedures;

  • Produce all tasks within specific turnaround times (TAT);

  • Use correct methods in accordance with the established procedures and schedules while ensuring analytical quality;

  • Observe established safety regulations and comply with all ALS health and safety policies and procedures;

  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Must be a careful and meticulous worker;

  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel);

  • Must be capable of working with minimal supervision;

  • Must be well organised, and able to work independently as well as part of a team;

  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment ;

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to understand and carry out detailed instructions.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent;

  • Previous Lab experience, full training will be provided.

Physical Demands

  • Manual dexterity to perform intricate and/or repetitive tasks;

  • Wear issued personal protective equipment (PPE) such as dust masks, gloves etc., when required;

  • Ability to stand for a full shift;

  • You may be exposed to unpleasant odours;

  • Please note that ALS operates 24/7 and may require day, afternoon, and graveyard shift work including weekends.
