Job description

Blue Chip Talent, in partnership with an automotive organization, is seeking a skilled Lead Exterior Trim Design Engineer. This role is responsible for leading the engineering design, release, and launch of exterior trim systems while optimizing quality, functionality, mass, manufacturability, and cost.


Job Duties

  • Lead the design, development, release, and launch of vehicle exterior trim systems
  • Develop exterior components including rocker panels, sill trims, underbody aero shields, wheelhouse liners, spoilers, appliques, and related systems
  • Create complex 3D CAD schemes and production-ready engineering models
  • Engineer exterior systems using thermoplastic and thermoset resin materials
  • Integrate Class A surfaces, aerodynamic features, structural requirements, and adjacent vehicle systems
  • Collaborate with studio, manufacturing, and vehicle engineering teams to resolve packaging and integration challenges
  • Evaluate fit and finish, gap and flush, thermal expansion, tooling, paint, and manufacturing requirements
  • Support component validation, engineering release, tooling, and vehicle launch activities


Skills & Experience

Required

  • 5+ years of vehicle exterior trim design and development experience
  • Hands-on design experience with exterior trim components such as rocker panels, sill trims, underbody aero shields, wheelhouse liners, spoilers, appliques, or related systems
  • Advanced 3D CAD modeling experience, preferably CATIA V5 or V6
  • Experience designing components using thermoplastic and/or thermoset resin materials
  • Knowledge of Class A manufacturing technologies and painted exterior components
  • Experience with automotive engineering release and product development processes
  • Vehicle or component launch experience


Desired

  • 5+ years of automotive plastics design experience
  • Experience developing Class A surfaces and production-intent exterior components
  • Knowledge of tooling, resin selection, paint processes, color matching, and plastics manufacturing
  • Experience with aerodynamic features, front crash requirements, lighting integration, or module integration
  • Knowledge of fit and finish, gap and flush, and thermal expansion requirements
  • Experience with structural design and exterior module concept development
  • Experience applying computational engineering tools to component design and validation
  • Experience supporting suppliers through tooling, validation, and production launch
