Job description

Clean Harbors is seeking a safety-focused Local Class A Tanker Driver to join its team in Thomasville, NC. This position primarily serves Thomasville and the surrounding areas, averaging 55+ hours per week.

While this is a local driving route and most evenings are spent at home, candidates must be flexible with scheduling. Occasional overnight travel may be required, and drivers must be willing to participate in a rotating on-call schedule to support emergency response operations when needed.

Pay: Starting $25

Hours: 5am-5pm (Mon-Fri)

About this Role:

  • You will assist with loading/unloading, securing gates on the dump trailer, tarping loads, and ensuring no debris or contaminated material escapes during transit.
  • Operating End Dump Trailers: You will be responsible for backing into tight customer sites, staging, and safely operating the hydraulic lift mechanisms to dump materials.
  • Unstable Terrain: Landfills are notorious for shifting ground, deep mud, and hidden debris. You will need strong backing and maneuvering skills to position a 53-foot articulated trailer onto unpaved, soft trash cells or liner areas without getting stuck or damaging the tires.
  • Tire Hazards: Puncture hazards (nails, metal shards, sharp rocks) are incredibly common. Frequent tire and undercarriage inspections are mandatory.

  • Class A CDL 
  • Minimum 12 months of Class A driving experience
  • Minimum 3 months of tanker experience 
  • HAZMAT and Tanker endorsements 
  • Ability to climb and work from heights 
  • Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs or more
  • Ability to effectively use required technology such as mobile applications and computer software
