Job description

If so, then this position is a great opportunity for you. The South Carolina Department of Agriculture (SCDA) is hiring a Retail Enforcement Compliance Officer. As a Retail Enforcement Compliance Officer, you will determine enforcement actions and then craft and serve Consent Orders, Administration Orders, and Suspensions to retail food establishments.

As a Retail Enforcement Compliance Officer some of your duties will include: Receiving and reviewing Enforcement referrals. Creating appropriate enforcement orders accurately based on regulation 61-25 and state laws in accordance with the SCDA enforcement policies. Providing programmatic and technical assistance to the Retail Food Safety (RFS) program staff.

Maintaining a high level of customer service with external customers and program staff. Providing programmatic consultation to the food service industry, personnel, and other interested persons. Tracking and completing enforcement orders, obtaining the necessary signatures, and collecting and processing accessed fines.

Providing requested Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) documentation. Maintaining the tracking spreadsheets related to enforcement orders and chronic violators. Providing reports to legal counsel and management regarding retail food establishments that are to be considered for suspension or revocation of permits.

Natural or physical science may include, but are not limited to Food Science, Nutrition, Agriculture, Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Environmental Science, Public Health, etc. An associate's degree in the natural or physical sciences or related field and two (2) years of environmental health or a high school diploma and four (4) years of environmental health or related experience, such as Food Safety/Service Industry, may be substituted for the required degree. A valid state driver's license and ability to operate a motorized vehicle.

Preferred Qualifications Knowledge/Experience in food, sanitation, food safety, or in the food service industry. Thorough knowledge of applicable state and federal food laws and regulations. Additional Comments Ability to communicate effectively with various audiences and prepare clear, concise, and comprehensive reports.

Requires ability to work in an office environment to include long periods working on a computer. Ability to climb stairs, ladders, and shift objects weighing up to 20 lbs. Must work effectively in a transparent, team-oriented environment and prepare reports / written correspondence with accurate technical regulatory language.

Ability to exercise judgement in applying and interpreting policies, procedures, rules and regulations, be detail oriented, and highly organized. Must be able to occasionally stand and walk for prolonged periods in extreme heat and cold. Ability to read complex legal documents.

Occasional overnight and/or out-of-state travel required. This is not a remote or field position. Candidate will be required to report to the campus of the Columbia State Farmers Market.
