Job description

JOB SUMMARY

Provides vehicle service readiness coordination of vehicle diagnostic systems and programs for Isuzu commercial trucks.  Coordinates the design and deployment of PC based and web-based programs that facilitate vehicle fault diagnosis and repairs.  Provides input on Isuzu manuals and technical training, special tools, and diagnostic equipment.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. In collaboration with the Service Development Engineering Supervisor, analyzes and develops vehicle diagnostic system requirements for current and future Isuzu commercial vehicles. Provides direction to INAC and Isuzu Japan management and engineers on future service requirements:
  • Scan Tool functionality
  • Vehicle Data downloads
  • Web-based programs
  1. Coordinates the development of diagnostic programs.  Documents requirements in the CRD (Customer Requirements Documents) and provides direction to IGSS programmers to ensure the online programs and IDSS software features are updated/enhanced for current and future Isuzu vehicles.
  2. Evaluates and develops technical service information (i.e., service bulletins, diagnostic manuals, and training materials), ensuring accuracy and coherence.
  3. Provides support in the development of technical publications, data, and reports (i.e., service/diagnostic/owner manuals, training guides, etc.).
  4. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

  • Reports to: Supervisor, Service Development Engineering

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & TRAINING

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Automotive Engineering Technology, or a related technical field; or an equivalent combination of education, training, internship, or project experience.
  • Experience writing, testing, or debugging software in one or more programming languages such as C++, C#, Python, Java, JavaScript, or embedded C.
  • Experience completing academic, internship, or project work involving hardware/software communication, serial communication, networking, embedded systems, robotics, automotive systems, or data acquisition.
  • Experience using software development tools such as an integrated development environment, debugger, source control system, issue-tracking system, or automated test tool.

KNOWLEDGE

  • Demonstrated ability to write and debug software in at least one programming language such as C++, C#, Python, Java, JavaScript, or embedded C.
  • Basic understanding of software development, debugging, testing, and technical documentation.
  • Knowledge of vehicle diagnostics, scan tools, CAN communication, OBD-II, ECU communication, or automotive service tools is preferred but not required.

SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Ability to read technical documentation, follow engineering requirements, and documenting software behavior or test results.
  • Interest in automotive diagnostics, embedded systems, vehicle communication, or automotive software development.
  • Ability to work under supervision, learn new technical concepts, and contribute to software development and testing activities.
  • Excellent PC skills in Microsoft Office applications
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Skilled in application of automotive equipment- both mechanical/electrical and computers

PHYSICAL STANDARDS

The employee must be able to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer. This is primarily a sedentary position in a controlled office environment. However, it also regularly requires reaching, stooping, crawling under vehicles, as well as the use of automotive repair shop tools and equipment to perform repair procedure validation and development on actual medium duty commercial vehicles. There will be instances requiring the lifting of objects (10 – 40 lbs.).

Travel Requirements

Position requires approximately 10%-15% travel, domestic and international, including overnight stays.

Pay Scale

The pay scale for this position is between $65,218 and $81,523. The actual compensation will be determined based on experience and other factors permitted by law.

  • Any offer made to the selected candidate that falls below the California exempt baseline of $70,304 will be classified as non-exempt.
