Job description

Job Summary: The sewing machine operators are responsible for operating industrial sewing machines. The sewing machine operators use either vinyl or canvas components to create furniture upholstery, bimini tops, privacy station curtains, etc. The sewing department supports the upholsterers and the assembly line.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Adheres to all safety policies and procedures

  • Follows all pre-established installation and quality methods, procedures and guidelines to ensure consistency of work

  • Reads order-specific job travelers and/or engineered drawings to ensure each order is produced to specifications

  • Uses an industrial sewing machine and various hand tools to fabricate vinyl and/or canvas components

  • Completes all job duties within given time constraints

  • Performs other duties as assigned

  • Cross-trains between several different jobs

  • Cleans and maintains work area

  • Pursues continuous improvement to improve efficiency of job duties and work flow

Job Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED

  • Attention to detail

  • Excellent problem solving skills

  • Good verbal and written communication skills

  • Needs good visual judgment to notice errors and/or defects

  • Ability to accurately read a tape measure

  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions

  • Ability to work in a fast paced, multifunctional team oriented work environment

  • Ability to work variable hours with short notice (up to 50+ hrs. per week)

Physical Requirements and Environment
