What is an outside sale representative?

Outside Sales Representatives are professionals who sell products or services by meeting potential and existing clients face-to-face, typically outside of a traditional office setting. They are responsible for generating leads, building relationships, presenting sales pitches, and closing deals in person. Their roles often require travel within a designated territory and the ability to work independently. Strong communication and negotiation skills are essential, as well as in-depth knowledge of the products or services they sell.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an outside sale representative, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Outside Sales Representative, you need strong sales acumen, persuasive communication, and a proven record of meeting targets, typically supported by a high school diploma or bachelor's degree in business or a related field. Familiarity with CRM software, sales analytics tools, and mobile communication platforms is often required. Self-motivation, resilience, and relationship-building skills help differentiate top performers in this role. These abilities enable representatives to build lasting client relationships, effectively manage territories, and drive consistent revenue growth.

What are some common challenges faced by outside sale representatives, and how can they be overcome?

Outside Sales Representatives often encounter challenges such as building rapport with new clients, managing a variable schedule, and meeting sales targets in competitive markets. Success in this role requires persistence, excellent time management, and adaptability to different customer needs. Leveraging CRM tools, maintaining a consistent follow-up routine, and continuously seeking product knowledge can help overcome these obstacles. Additionally, collaborating closely with internal teams for support and insights can enhance overall performance and client satisfaction.

Job description

Corvallis โ€ข Eugene โ€ข Roseburg, Oregonย

Are you a fearless salesperson who loves the chase, builds relationships everywhere you go, and knows how to close?

Weโ€™re looking for aย tenacious, confident, likable Part-time Outside Sales Representativeย to own and grow our commercial sales territory coveringย Corvallis, Eugene, Roseburg, and the surrounding communities.

This is not a sit-behind-a-desk sales job. Youโ€™ll beย out in the field, meeting customers, finding opportunities, solving problems, and growing businessย across the Willamette Valley and Southern Oregon.

Youโ€™ll represent our auto glass services and glass products to dealerships, auto body shops, insurance companies, fleet operators, trucking companies, and other commercial customers.

If youโ€™re energized by meeting new people, uncovering opportunities, and turning prospects into loyal customers,ย we want to meet you.

What Youโ€™ll Do

  • Hunt for new business.ย Consistently prospect, cold call, network, and develop new commercial accounts throughout the Corvallis, Eugene, and Roseburg markets.
  • Close deals.ย Turn opportunities into profitable sales and build a strong book of business.
  • Own your territory.ย Plan your schedule, prioritize accounts, get in the car, and go make things happen.
  • Build relationships.ย Become a trusted resource for dealerships, body shops, fleets, trucking operations, insurance companies, and other commercial customers.
  • Grow existing accounts.ย Find new opportunities within current customer relationships and expand the business.
  • Sell solutions.ย Generate sales for mobile auto glass installation services and glass-only products for cars, trucks, fleets, heavy-duty vehicles, trucking equipment, and other applicable equipment.
  • Meet customers face-to-face.ย Conduct sales presentations, understand customer needs, and customize solutions that make sense for their business.
  • Follow through.ย Stay on top of leads, opportunities, customer visits, and follow-ups.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service.ย Be responsive, professional, and someone customers actually want to do business with.
  • Track your opportunities.ย Maintain accurate customer and prospect information and document activity throughout the sales process.
  • Collaborate with leadership.ย Meet regularly with the Sales & Marketing Director to review opportunities, progress, and territory strategy.

Who You Are

Youโ€™re not waiting around for someone to hand you a lead.

Youโ€™re aย self-starter, a hunter, and a closer.ย You know that success in outside sales comes from getting out there, starting conversations, earning trust, and asking for the business.

What You Bring

  • 5+ years of outside sales and marketing experience.
  • Proven ability to prospect, develop relationships, negotiate, and close business.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to deliver effective sales presentations and communicate technical information.
  • Excellent problem-solving and customer relationship skills.
  • Professional presence and a commitment to ethical business practices.
  • Valid driverโ€™s license and acceptable driving record that meets company insurance requirements.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check.

The Territory

This position focuses on theย Corvallis, Eugene, and Roseburg corridor, including surrounding communities and commercial markets.

Youโ€™ll spend your timeย in the field and in front of customers, developing new business and strengthening relationships throughout the territory.

This is aย part-time outside sales positionย with the independence to manage your own schedule, prioritize high-value opportunities, and build your territory.

The role requires the ability to:

  • Travel throughout the Corvallis, Eugene, and Roseburg territory, with occasional additional Oregon travel as needed.
  • Sit for extended periods while driving or working.
  • Stand, walk, reach, and use hands for handling and other activities.
  • Lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Use computers, phones, mobile devices, and standard office equipment.
  • Follow all company safety procedures, training requirements, PPE requirements, and ergonomic practices.

If youโ€™re confident, competitive, personable, persistent, and motivated by turning conversations into customers,ย this could be your opportunity to make a real impact.

Bring your hustle. Bring your personality. Bring your closing game.
