Job description

DigitalPath Inc. Outdoor Network Technician Apprentice
DigitalPath is the leading Wireless Internet Service Provider (WISP) providing internet service to rural communities and critical fire response networks throughout California. Our mission is to bring a faster, more reliable service for customers that are typically unserved or underserviced by cable companies.
As an Outdoor Network Technician Apprentice, you will be guided by experienced Outdoor Network Technicians, Trainers, Leads, and Supervisors, to build, expand, upgrade, and maintain our wireless network. In this position, you will be expected to pivot from training to application, as well as between physical, technical, and administrative work.
Additional information:
  • Work is performed almost entirely outdoors, working at height in a variety of inclement weather conditions year-round.
  • This position will be assigned a 4/10's alternate workweek schedule working either Mon-Thu or Tue-Fri.
  • This is a very physical job that at times will require intense physical effort, including tower climbing.
  • You will be expected to work some overtime on a regular basis, and significant overtime on occasion.
  • There can be a significant amount of time spent driving, sometimes requiring several days in a row out-of-town.
  • This is a great position to contribute and utilize existing construction or tower/climbing skills.

A Successful Candidate will have:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • No fear of heights, driving, or flying.
  • 5 years of driving experience (3 years may be considered with the right combination of experience).
  • Must be insurable under our company policies with a clean driving record (no more than 1 point, no DUI's, and no at-fault accidents).
  • Experience driving in inclement weather (trailer experience a plus).
  • Experience being active outdoors with a desire to work in all types of weather, including extreme heat and cold.
  • Punctual attendance - must have reliable transportation and be able to regularly show up on time.
  • Must maintain a maximum weight of 250 lbs. or less for proper fit and use of climbing gear and necessary safety equipment.
  • Capability of communicating clearly and effectively verbally and in writing, including use of electronic communications.
  • Must be able to work with a sense of urgency on a consistent basis.
  • Experience using various hand/power tools.
  • Basic networking knowledge/experience - IP Addresses, Routers, Gateways, DNS, etc.
  • Must be able to accurately understand and follow monochrome and full-color schematics and wiring diagrams.
  • Willingness and ability to grasp new physical and technical skills quickly.
  • Ability to remain well-organized in an outdoor non-office environment.
  • Ability to pivot quickly between team and independent work requirements based on the task at hand.
  • Ability to work at heights for several hours.
  • Ability to read and follow simple plans, diagrams, and schematics (color and monochrome).
  • Ability to work overtime and out of town as necessary.
  • Ability to participate in a rotating on-call schedule.

Physical requirements:
  • Lift up to 58 lbs. from ground level to above head level.
  • Frequently sitting(driving) and walking (up to 6 hours at a time).
  • Bend, stoop, kneel for 25-35 minutes at a time.
  • Stand, bend, and twist (neck & waist), climb, kneel, squat constantly throughout the day.
  • Able to accurately understand and distinguish between varying colors and shades of colors.
  • Frequent to constant use of both hands, including fine manipulation and keyboarding.
  • Grasping (simple & power), pushing and pulling with both hands.
  • Able to climb and work on towers and other structures up to 300' for extended periods of time while utilizing fall protection systems.
  • Frequent to constant reaching, both above and below shoulder level.

Benefits and Compensation information
We typically hire at $25 with a skills-based assessment within the first 3-6 months. Starting compensation range is $25.00 to $27.00 per hour for a new technician. Hiring pay above $25/hr. may require qualification with additional skills evaluations.
