Job description

Reports to: Director of Banquets / Assistant Director of Food & Beverage

Classification: Exempt

Position Overview

The Banquet Manager is responsible for leading the execution of weddings, meetings, and special events at Carneros Resort and Spa, ensuring seamless operations, exceptional service, and elevated guest experiences. This role serves as a key operational leader, translating event contracts and Banquet Event Orders (BEOs) into flawlessly executed events that reflect the resort’s luxury and Forbes-level service standards.

The ideal candidate is a confident, detail-oriented hospitality professional with strong leadership skills, the ability to manage teams in fast-paced environments, and a collaborative approach to working with Sales, Culinary, and Operations teams.

Key ResponsibilitiesEvent Execution & Operations
  • Oversee the setup, service, and breakdown of all banquet and event functions in accordance with BEOs and event timelines.
  • Act as the on-site operational lead during events, ensuring service flow, staffing alignment, and guest satisfaction.
  • Anticipate operational challenges and resolve issues in real time with professionalism and urgency.
  • Ensure all event spaces are maintained to luxury standards before, during, and after events.
Team Leadership & Accountability
  • Lead, supervise, and support banquet captains, servers, bartenders, and housepersons.
  • Schedule staff based on event needs, forecasts, and labor targets.
  • Provide coaching, direction, and performance feedback to ensure accountability and service consistency.
  • Conduct pre-event briefings to communicate expectations, timelines, and service standards.
Collaboration & Sales Partnership
  • Partner closely with the Sales and Conference Services teams to ensure smooth event turnover and alignment on client expectations.
  • Participate in BEO, resume, and group review meetings to stay informed on upcoming programs.
  • Communicate proactively with clients, planners, and internal teams to support flawless execution.
  • Support upselling opportunities and service enhancements during event execution.
Financial & Operational Oversight
  • Monitor labor productivity, staffing efficiency, and event pacing to meet departmental financial goals.
  • Assist with inventory oversight, equipment readiness, and supply management.
  • Ensure compliance with all food safety, alcohol service, health, and safety regulations.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and reporting related to events and staffing.
Standards & Guest Experience
  • Uphold Forbes service standards and Carneros Resort and Spa brand expectations across all events.
  • Ensure all staff are trained and compliant with responsible alcohol service requirements.
  • Represent the resort professionally in all guest and client interactions.
Qualifications
  • 3–5 years of banquet or event management experience in a luxury hotel or resort environment.
  • Proven ability to lead teams in high-volume, fast-paced, and seasonal settings.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience working with BEOs, event resumes, floor plans, and timelines.
  • Financial acumen with experience managing labor, inventory, and event logistics.
  • Knowledge of Napa/Sonoma wine country dining culture and Forbes service standards preferred.
Schedule & Physical Requirements
  • Flexible availability required, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and peak event periods.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods during events.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds, including event materials and service equipment.
  • Ability to navigate indoor and outdoor event spaces across the resort’s 28-acre property.
