Job Description/Tasks/Responsibilities
  • Drives safely in compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations. Secures loads to trailers, tarps loads when required, completes logs, reports and other required forms/paperwork. Maintains permit compliance. Complies with security and customer procedures.
  • Drives safely in compliance with DOT to ensure the efficient delivery of loads.
  • Secures loads to trailers with chains, binders and straps to hold load securely while transporting.
  • Tarps load when necessary to ensure nothing is blown away or damaged.
  • Completes logs, reports and other required forms/paperwork in accordance with all laws and regulations.
  • Meets schedule set forth by terminal manager and dispatcher to ensure loads are delivered as quickly and efficiently as possible.
  • Drives as part of a team as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements/Skills
  • Must not have been convicted of a felony (Federal Background check)
  • Must have a clean Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) with no preventable crash, no DUI, or DWI. Minor incidents will be reviewed on a case by case basis; must provide copy of police report for management review.
  • Must have the following Pre-Employment Screening Program (PSP) and Compliance, Safety, Accountability (CSA): 0 unsafe driving, controlled substances, or driver fitness violations. No more than 2 minor hours of service, hazmat or maintenance violations.
  • Must not have had any major traffic violation in the past 5 years
  • Must be able to obtain satisfactory replies from previous employers' background checks
  • Must be able to obtain satisfactory results from third-party background investigation
  • Must not have had a previous positive drug or alcohol random test
  • Ability to pass DOT pre-employment 5-panel drug screen and DOT pre-employment physical
  • Effective communication skills
  • Must be a US Citizen
  • Follows all federal/government guidelines
  • Fluent in reading and writing and able to comprehend written and verbal instructions
  • Ability to take direction
  • Ability to understand regulations and laws associated with transportation
  • Capable of lifting 50 pounds
  • Ability to work occasionally at elevated heights off ladders/platforms
  • Ability to pass all regulatory required and Hittman required training
  • Ability to tarp and secure cargo
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • DOE Q or L security clearance preferred
Minimum Education, Experience and Certification Requirements Education
  • High School diploma or GED; or
  • Ability to obtain GED within first year of employment
Certifications
  • Commercial Driver's License (CDL) required, must have Real ID
  • Class A with Tanker, HAZMAT (Hazardous Material) required
  • Doubles license endorsements preferred
  • Must have or be able to obtain Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) and Passport within 90 days of employment
Required Experience
  • Minimum of 2 years Over The Road (OTR) experience
  • Tanker experience
Preferred Experience
  • Experience transporting Hazardous Material
  • Flatbed experience
  • Experience with Oversize and Overweight (OS/OW) loads, over dimensional loads
