About this Position

The Academic Program Specialist will support the Oklahoma State University (OSU) Institute for Teaching and Learning Excellence OSU Online department by providing comprehensive and effective communication to prospective and current undergraduate and graduate online students. The specialist will assist with questions regarding online degrees, admissions, curriculum, format, cost, and resources to support the online student journey via phone, email, written, verbal, and in-person methods. The position will assist the Coordinator of Academic Programs and Associate Director with planning, launching, and sustaining initiatives to grow online degree enrollment and improve retention of online students. The Academic Program Specialist will research online learner needs, national career and degree trends, utilize student development theory, and make recommendations to improve OSU's online student support. The specialist will co-develop programming and initiatives designed to increase the online student’s sense of connection to OSU and academic pursuits. The position will work with a variety of campus staff including advisors, recruitment, and admissions staff.

Required Qualifications
  • High School/GED (degree must be conferred on or before agreed upon start date)
  • Five years of experience in a student development field or an advising office.
    Skills, Proficiencies, and/or Knowledge:
  • Knowledge of OSU student support services and/or advising experience; experience writing student support content. The successful applicant will possess a positive attitude and excellent people skills including experience providing friendly, professional, and effective customer service. The individual must have strong written and verbal communication skills, be highly organized and able to manage multiple projects. The individual must be willing to learn quickly, adapt to a quickly changing environment, solve problems, and work with diverse stakeholders. Applicants must be proficient with common workplace business/education software.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's

    Student development, higher education, admissions, or advising.

  • Three to four years of experience in a student development field or an advising office, knowledge of OSU student support services and/or advising experience; experience writing student support content.
    Skills, Proficiencies, and/or Knowledge:

  • The successful candidate will have demonstrated customer service experience and ability to work effectively as part of a team. The individual must have experience conducting research and market analysis of higher education online students.
