About this Position

Who We Are: The Field and Research Service Unit (FRSU) is a component of OSU Ag Research that has a mission to conduct research on agriculture, natural resources, rural economies and social issues to increase science-based knowledge and develop technology to improve the lives of Oklahomans.

The Field & Research Service Unit encompasses the infrastructure and local staff for field- and lab-based research experiments. Facilities include 21 research units with research stations that span the diverse environments across Oklahoma and the campus based Controlled Environmental Research Lab, Stored Products Research Center, multiple greenhouses, and core lab facilities. Position Information: This position requires a service attitude with strengths in teamwork, professionalism, and resource stewardship. General duties included assisting with the overall care and maintenance of research projects, animals and facilities associated with the OSU Research Range with its headquarters located west of Stillwater, Oklahoma. The successful candidate is to work closely with the station staff & researchers to provide care for animals (primarily cattle), and technical support to research projects. This includes common farming activities, specific research support activities, maintenance, repair and construction of equipment and equipment operation. Other duties are to be completed as assigned.

Required Qualifications
  • High School/GED (degree must be conferred on or before agreed upon start date)
  • Vocational/Technical training with one year of work related experience or two years of work related experience without technical training. Work related experiences include but are not limited to: familiarity with livestock management, forages, range management, prescribed fire, natural resource management, pulling livestock trailers, equipment operations, equipment repair, and basic research practices in agricultural or natural resources management. 

  • Certifications, Registrations, and/or Licenses:

    Must possess and maintain valid driver's license. Must maintain a cell phone capable of communication with calls, emails, and text.

  • Skills, Proficiencies, and/or Knowledge:

    Good mechanical aptitude required. Must have an eye for detail to help implement a preventive maintenance program. Must be able to maintain, make repairs, and operate various research equipment including general agricultural equipment such as tractors, skid loaders, chain saws, hay equipment, and sprayers. Basic understanding of small engine operation, carpentry, plumbing, and painting.

    Demonstrated competency and effective use of computing and computer-based communications technology.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Vocational/Technical

    In areas such as Plant & Soil Science, Biosystems Engineering, Animal Science, Agricultural Education, Natural Resource and Environmental Sciences  or closely related field.

  • Three years work-related experience to include operation of farm/ranch equipment and management of livestock, range, research projects, and data. Experience in artificial insemination and pregnancy checking.

  • Certifications, Registrations, and/or Licenses:

    CDL Class A driver's license. An Oklahoma Ag Chemical Technical Service Applicators or Demonstration and Research license.  Artificial insemination certification.
