What does an OSP Quality Control Engineer do?

An OSP (Outside Plant) Quality Control Engineer is responsible for ensuring that the installation, maintenance, and operation of telecommunications infrastructure outside central facilities—such as fiber optic cables, conduits, and related equipment—meet industry standards and project specifications. They conduct inspections, review construction work, and verify compliance with quality, safety, and regulatory requirements. Their work is crucial for maintaining network reliability and performance, often involving collaboration with contractors, project managers, and field technicians. OSP Quality Control Engineers also document issues, recommend corrective actions, and help implement best practices to prevent future problems.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an OSP Quality Control Engineer?

To thrive as an OSP (Outside Plant) Quality Control Engineer, you need a strong understanding of telecommunications infrastructure, construction standards, and quality assurance processes, often supported by a degree in engineering or a related field. Familiarity with GIS mapping tools, fiber optic testing equipment, and industry standards like TIA/EIA or ISO certifications is typically required. Attention to detail, problem-solving, and effective communication are vital soft skills for ensuring project requirements are met and collaborating with contractors. These skills and qualifications are crucial for maintaining network integrity, ensuring compliance, and delivering reliable telecom services.

What are some typical challenges faced by OSP Quality Control Engineers in the telecommunications industry?

OSP Quality Control Engineers often encounter challenges such as ensuring that contractors adhere strictly to design specifications and industry standards during the installation of outside plant (OSP) infrastructure. They must also manage tight project deadlines and coordinate with multiple teams, including construction, design, and project management. Regular site inspections are required to detect and resolve issues early, and effective communication is essential to address discrepancies quickly. Staying updated on evolving technologies and regulatory requirements is also crucial for success in this role.

About Us:
Sealing Technologies, a Parsons Corporation company, is a trusted partner in providing powerful edge computing hardware and defensive cybersecurity solutions to protect the Federal Government and private enterprises. Our goal is to support the federal government, our allies, mission partners, and private industries in accomplishing their cybersecurity and defense objectives efficiently and securely through cutting-edge hardware, engineering, and integration services.
Position Overview:
Sealing Technologies, a Parsons Company, is looking to hire an experienced Software Quality Control Engineer to own software quality across our delivery pipeline. In this role, you will build and maintain the automation, testing, and release validation that ensures software is deployed reliably and performs to standard in production environments. You will work hands-on across containerized and orchestrated infrastructure, embedding quality controls directly into the build and deployment process rather than treating testing as a downstream activity.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Design, implement, and maintain automated test coverage integrated directly into CI/CD pipelines.
  • Build and manage CI/CD pipelines using GitLab CI and/or GitHub Actions, including automated quality gates and release validation checks.
  • Deploy, validate, and troubleshoot workloads across Kubernetes clusters, including cluster setup and workload deployment.
  • Write and maintain Ansible playbooks and roles for infrastructure automation and application deployment.
  • Establish and enforce quality standards, test strategy, and release acceptance criteria across software deliverables.
  • Execute functional, integration, regression, and performance testing across development, staging, and production environments.
  • Identify, document, and track defects through resolution; lead root cause analysis and verify corrective actions.
  • Develop and maintain quality metrics, test coverage reporting, and release readiness assessments.
  • Mentor engineers on testing practices, automation standards, and quality engineering methodology.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • U.S. Citizenship.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or related field; equivalent experience may be considered.
  • 8 years of experience in software quality engineering, test automation, DevOps, or platform engineering.
  • Experience with Kubernetes, including cluster setup, workload deployment, networking, and day to day troubleshooting.
  • Experience writing and maintaining Ansible playbooks and roles for infrastructure automation and application deployment.
  • Experience building and managing CI/CD pipelines with GitLab CI and/or GitHub Actions.
  • Experience containerizing applications using Docker or similar tooling.
  • Experience designing and implementing automated test coverage integrated into CI/CD workflows.
  • Proficiency with at least one scripting or programming language (Python, Bash)
  • Experience with defect tracking, root cause analysis, and corrective action processes.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Active Secret clearance or ability to obtain one.
  • Experience supporting DoD or federal programs.
  • Experience with test automation frameworks (pytest, Selenium, Playwright, Robot Framework, or equivalent).
  • Experience with performance and load testing tools.
  • Experience with Agile development practices and tooling (Jira, Confluence).
  • Experience with quality management systems or formal QA methodology.
