Job Summary:

As the Director of Engineering, you will ultimately be responsible for providing strategic and operational leadership for Outside Plant (OSP) engineering operations supporting fiber optic and broadband network deployments. You will oversee engineering teams responsible for network design, capacity planning, project delivery, quality assurance, and customer satisfaction while ensuring projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with company and client standards. As the Director of Engineering, your customers are internal engineering teams, operations, project managers, clients, and utility partners, and you will make meaningful contributions to the company's success through operational excellence, technical leadership, and continuous process improvement.

Key Responsibilities (Including, but not limited to):

  • Lead and manage OSP engineering operations, providing strategic direction, technical leadership, and operational oversight for multiple engineering teams and customer programs
  • Develop workforce capacity plans, production goals, financial forecasts, resource allocation strategies, and performance metrics to ensure efficient project delivery
  • Partner with customers, operations, project management, and cross-functional teams to deliver engineering solutions that meet quality, schedule, and budget objectives
  • Monitor engineering productivity, quality, and customer performance while identifying opportunities to improve processes, increase efficiency, and reduce project cycle times
  • Analyze operational data, project performance, financial metrics, and business intelligence reports to support strategic planning and executive decision-making
  • Recruit, develop, mentor, and evaluate engineering leaders and staff while fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement
  • Manage customer escalations, operational risks, and technical challenges while maintaining strong client relationships and ensuring successful project execution
  • Additional responsibilities within functional scope based on business needs

Required Qualifications:

Education, Licensing, and Certifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Technology, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Valid Driver's License with an acceptable driving record

Experience

  • Minimum of 15 years of Outside Plant (OSP) engineering experience
  • Minimum of 5 years of leadership experience managing engineering teams and large-scale telecommunications programs
  • Experience leading end-to-end fiber deployment projects, including planning, engineering, design, permitting, and project delivery

Skills and Abilities

  • Extensive knowledge of OSP engineering principles, FTTx network design, GPON architecture, conduit systems, permitting, and pole loading analysis
  • Strong understanding of National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) standards and telecommunications construction practices
  • Experience with AutoCAD, MicroStation, GIS platforms, CAD systems, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Visio, Google Earth, and client-specific engineering software
  • Strong leadership, organizational, analytical, and strategic planning skills
  • Excellent verbal, written, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects, budgets, customer relationships, and cross-functional teams in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong business acumen with experience utilizing operational metrics, forecasting, reporting, and continuous improvement methodologies

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM)
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification
  • Experience with utility construction, utility project management, and broadband infrastructure deployment
  • Experience with Fiber-to-the-Building (FTTB), Small Cell, and advanced fiber network architectures
  • Experience working with municipalities, government agencies, utility providers, and customer relationship management
  • Civil engineering or telecommunications construction background

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs.
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, and travel between office locations and project sites as business needs require
  • Occasional travel to customer meetings, field locations, and operational facilities
  • Ability to work in both office and field environments, including active construction sites when necessary
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment background check, drug screen, and Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) review
