OSP Mechanic – Job Description

Essel is seeking a skilled and dependable OSP (Outside Plant) Mechanic to join our team. The OSP Mechanic will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of outside plant infrastructure, including telecommunications and utility equipment located outdoors. This role requires a strong understanding of mechanical systems and the ability to work in various outdoor environments, ensuring safe and efficient operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Install, maintain, and repair outside plant equipment such as cables, poles, conduits, and related hardware.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to mechanical and structural components of outside plant facilities.
  • Perform routine inspections and preventative maintenance to ensure infrastructure integrity and safety.
  • Operate tools and equipment necessary for outside plant work safely and effectively.
  • Assist with planning and executing fieldwork to support construction and maintenance activities.
  • Document work activities, maintain logs, and report issues or needs to supervisors.
  • Follow all safety protocols and company policies to promote a safe work environment.
  • Work collaboratively with team members and other departments to achieve project goals.

Requirements

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous experience as an OSP mechanic or in a similar outside plant or utilities role preferred.
  • Familiarity with outside plant equipment, tools, and safety practices.
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and environments.
  • Good mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety standards.
  • Ability to lift heavy equipment and work at heights as required.
  • Effective communication and teamwork abilities.
