Job description

Aquinas Consulting is currently looking to fill a remote Senior z/OS Systems Engineer (Mainframe) opening with a key client. If you have seven or more years of general z/OS systems programming experience and a strong background in IBM and ISV product installation, maintenance, and support, this CONTRACT opportunity could be a great fit for you. In this role, you will perform a wide range of z/OS systems programming tasks including mainframe network configuration, z/OSMF customization, and ongoing support across a complex mainframe environment. You will bring deep technical expertise, strong analytical skills, and the ability to identify deficiencies and recommend solutions for improvement.

Senior z/OS Systems Engineer Job Responsibilities:

  • Perform installation, maintenance, configuration, and support of a wide range of IBM, Broadcom, BMC, Precisely, and other ISV products across the z/OS environment
  • Manage mainframe network configuration and z/OSMF customization and usage
  • Analyze the current environment to detect critical deficiencies and recommend solutions for improvement, and update and create system documentation as necessary
  • Participate in the on-call rotation to provide after-hours support and ensure system availability
  • Collaborate with the team to maintain a stable, secure, and high-performing mainframe environment

Qualifications:

  • Seven or more years of general z/OS systems programming experience and five or more years performing installation, maintenance, configuration, and support of IBM, Broadcom, BMC, Precisely, and other ISV products
  • Three or more years of mainframe network configuration and management and three or more years of z/OSMF customization and usage
  • Experience with Coupling Facility, SYSPLEX, Structures, CA-7 batch scheduling, and BlueZone mainframe emulator configuration and upgrades is a plus
  • Experience with hardware and general storage management including IBM Virtual Tape (TS7770), Dell EMC DASD, SMS rules and ACS routines, DFHSM, CA-1, data retention policies, and disaster recovery planning is a plus
  • Experience with ACF2 installation, maintenance, and customization including audit and compliance, performance monitoring and tuning, and Assembler and REXX programming is a plus
