What does an orthodontist do?

An orthodontist is a dental specialist who diagnoses, prevents, and treats dental and facial irregularities. They primarily focus on aligning teeth and jaws using braces, clear aligners, and other orthodontic appliances. Orthodontists help improve both the function and appearance of a patient's bite and smile. Their work not only enhances aesthetics but also promotes better oral health by making teeth easier to clean and maintain.

To excel as an Orthodontist in the USA, you need a dental degree (DDS or DMD), completion of an accredited orthodontic residency, and board certification. Familiarity with dental imaging technology, digital orthodontic treatment planning software, and orthodontic appliances is essential. Strong interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and effective communication help build trust with patients and collaborate with dental teams. These competencies ensure accurate diagnoses, successful treatment outcomes, and high patient satisfaction in a specialized clinical environment.

What are some common challenges orthodontists face when managing patient care in the USA?
