ORTHO TECH FOR CAPITOL HILL & BELLEVUE.
Job Summary:
Provides primary responsibility to assist the physician/physician assistant in the operating room, on patient floors, and in physician offices with the application and removal of casts and orthopedic devices.
Essential Responsibilities:

  • Assist the physician/PAs with orthopedic casting, the procedures include the application and remove of a variety of casts and splints.
  • Suture and staple removal with after care instructions for patients. Provide pre and post instructions to patients: skin care, cast care, and safety measures using AVS or handouts as appropriate. Instruct patients on cast wear, swelling, and how to remove and apply splints (document appropriate information in patients chart).
  • Patient assessment for complications of casts: pressure points, compartment syndrome, and compromised skin integrity. Cast repair and splinting.
  • Perform routine exam and treatment procedures to include removing casts, cleaning wounds, and applying medications and dressings.
  • Prepare and assist physicians and PAs with minor procedures. Assist providers in placement or removal of pins or screws, joint injections and closed reductions.

  • Registered Medical Assistant (Washington) within 2 months of hire OR Medical Assistant Certificate (Washington) required at hire
  • Basic Life Support required at hire
Additional Requirements:
  • Medical assistant with casting experience or who is currently working as an orthopedic technician.
  • Knowledge of different types of casts: application, removal and suture removal.
  • Familiar with basic medical terminology, especially orthopedic terminology.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Orthopedic Technologist Certified (National Association of Orthopedic Technologists) by date of hire/transfer.
  • Advanced knowledge of the application and removal of casts. Independent in the workplace.
  • Certified orthopedic technician or MA with vast experience in casting.
