Position Summary
Aegis Aerospace is seeking a Software Engineer (Orion Simulation) to support the Orion program in Denver, CO. This is a hybrid position requiring onsite support at Lockheed Martin’s Denver-area facility at least three days per week.
The Software Engineer will contribute to the development, integration, testing, and maintenance of simulation software used to validate spacecraft flight systems. This position involves hands-on development using Python 3.10 and C++20, Linux-based software development, software modeling, simulation-based testing, and verification and validation activities.
The successful candidate will work collaboratively with Aegis Aerospace personnel and Lockheed Martin technical stakeholders to develop and integrate software models, execute simulations, analyze results, troubleshoot system behavior, and ensure simulation software accurately represents spacecraft systems and interfaces.
This position provides an opportunity to apply software development and simulation experience directly to human spaceflight systems supporting NASA's Orion program.
Responsibilities
  • Develop, maintain, and enhance simulation software used to test and validate spacecraft systems.
  • Design and implement software models that replicate spacecraft systems, interfaces, and behaviors.
  • Develop software using Python 3.10 and C++20 within Linux-based development environments.
  • Execute simulations and analyze results to evaluate system behavior and verify performance against program requirements.
  • Support software verification and validation, unit testing, integration testing, and system-level testing activities.
  • Develop, analyze, and troubleshoot device communication protocols and network interfaces.
  • Debug, troubleshoot, and optimize simulation software for performance, reliability, and accuracy.
  • Collaborate with Lockheed Martin technical teams to integrate simulation software into spacecraft testing and validation environments.
  • Support requirements management, traceability, and verification activities.
  • Participate in project and technical design reviews.
  • Participate in regular team meetings, provide status updates, and coordinate technical activities with teammates and program stakeholders.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of simulation development, software testing, and verification methodologies.
Required Qualifications
  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related technical discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant professional experience.
  • Proficiency developing software using Python 3.10 and C++20.
  • Experience developing software in a Linux environment.
  • Experience working across the software development lifecycle, including software engineering, development, verification, and validation.
  • Experience with simulation software, simulation environments, modeling, or simulation-based testing.
  • Experience developing or implementing software models used to simulate system behaviors.
  • Familiarity with DOORS or similar requirements management software.
  • Experience working with network protocols and networked systems.
  • Experience developing or supporting multi-threaded applications.
  • Experience writing, analyzing, and debugging device communication protocols.
  • Strong debugging, unit testing, and integration testing skills.
  • Understanding of simulation-based testing and software verification methodologies.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to technical detail.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively interface and collaborate with customers, engineering teams, and program personnel.
  • Ability to exercise sound professional judgment while managing technical objectives, milestones, and priorities.
  • Motivated self-starter with the ability to take initiative and work effectively in a collaborative engineering environment.
Desired Qualifications
  • Previous experience supporting the Orion program.
  • Experience with MATLAB/Simulink model integration.
  • Additional software, system, or physics-based modeling experience.
  • Working knowledge of spacecraft design, spacecraft systems, subsystems, interfaces, or components.
  • Previous experience supporting NASA, Department of Defense, or other U.S. Government programs or contracts.
  • Experience working with aerospace, spacecraft, flight systems, embedded systems, or other mission-critical software.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, Outlook, and Adobe Acrobat.
