Position Summary
The University of Alabama at Birmingham, Med - Cardiovascular Disease, is in search of a Researcher Associate to join their team. This position will support research activities within the Cardiovascular Bioengineering Laboratory and the UAB Microfabrication Facility under the direction of Dr. Palaniappan Sethu. The successful candidate will contribute to innovative translational research programs focused on cardiovascular disease, infectious diseases, and organoid-based technologies. This role offers the opportunity to work in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment and engage in both established and emerging research initiatives. Candidates should be comfortable working independently while collaborating with faculty, staff, and trainees to advance the laboratory's research objectives and support the continued growth of its scientific programs.
General Responsibilities
As a Researcher Associate, this intermediate-level position will require you to independently conduct more complex studies and analyses, contributing to the advancement of research projects. With greater autonomy, you will design experiments, interpret data, and collaborate with senior researchers to develop and refine research protocols. Your role may also include mentoring junior staff and ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards. Depending on the research focus, this position may involve research collaborator contact, research animal contact, and/or specimens.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Lead on a project focused on identifying molecular mechanisms associated with development of non-surgical bleeding in patients with Left Ventricular Assist Devices.
Perform ELISAs to detect biomarkers in blood samples of patients with suspicion of infectious disease.
Generate lung organoids for studying infectious diseases.
Generate organoids for users as part of a soon to be established core.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Hourly Range: $19.80- $ 32.15
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a related field OR Associate's degree in a related field and two (2) years of related experience OR High School diploma or GED and four (4) years of related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.
