How much do organic foods jobs pay per hour?

As of Jun 11, 2026, the average hourly pay for organic foods in the United States is $18.98, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $17.31 and $20.43 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are organic foods?

Organic foods are products that are grown and processed according to specific standards set by certifying bodies, such as the USDA in the United States. These standards generally prohibit the use of synthetic pesticides, fertilizers, genetically modified organisms (GMOs), antibiotics, and growth hormones. Organic farming practices focus on sustainability, soil health, and environmental protection. Foods labeled as organic must be certified and meet strict production requirements. Consumers often choose organic foods for perceived health benefits, environmental reasons, or animal welfare concerns.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals working in the organic foods industry?

Professionals in the organic foods industry often encounter challenges related to strict regulatory compliance, sourcing certified organic ingredients, and maintaining supply chain transparency. Adapting to evolving organic certification standards and ensuring product integrity throughout the production process can be demanding. Additionally, professionals must collaborate closely with farmers, suppliers, and certification bodies, which requires strong communication and problem-solving skills to address issues such as crop availability and seasonal fluctuations.

What is the difference between Organic Foods vs Organic Food Retailers?

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Organic Foods Specialist, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Organic Foods Specialist, you need expertise in organic agriculture, food safety standards, and knowledge of certification requirements, often supported by a relevant degree or experience in agriculture or food sciences. Familiarity with organic certification systems (e.g., USDA Organic), supply chain management software, and traceability tools is typically required. Strong communication, attention to detail, and problem-solving abilities are valuable soft skills in this role. These competencies ensure the integrity of organic products, regulatory compliance, and effective collaboration with suppliers and customers.
