What are Oracle ODI Developers?

Oracle ODI Developers are IT professionals who specialize in using Oracle Data Integrator (ODI), a comprehensive data integration platform. They design, develop, and maintain data integration solutions, enabling organizations to efficiently extract, transform, and load (ETL) data from various sources to target systems. Their responsibilities often include creating mappings, procedures, and scenarios, as well as troubleshooting and optimizing data workflows. These developers play a key role in ensuring data quality and consistency across enterprise environments.

What are some common challenges Oracle ODI Developers face when integrating data from multiple sources?

Oracle ODI Developers often encounter challenges such as handling varying data formats, dealing with inconsistent or poor-quality source data, and ensuring seamless data transformation and mapping between disparate systems. Collaborating closely with database administrators, business analysts, and application teams is essential to understand data requirements and resolve integration issues. Staying up-to-date with ODI best practices and troubleshooting performance bottlenecks are also vital for the successful delivery of robust data integration solutions.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Oracle ODI Developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Oracle ODI Developer, you need a solid background in ETL processes, data warehousing concepts, and proficiency in Oracle Data Integrator (ODI), typically supported by a degree in computer science or information technology. Familiarity with Oracle databases, SQL, PL/SQL, and experience with data modeling tools and integration platforms are essential. Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication make a developer stand out in this role. These skills are critical for designing efficient data integration solutions and ensuring seamless data flow across enterprise systems.

Job description

ILS Inc. is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Oracle Analytics & Data Integration Developer to join our team in a hybrid role based in Fairfax, VA. This position requires in-office presence two days per week at our headquarters (Fairfax, VA 22033), so candidates must be local to the DC Metro area.

In this role, you will design, develop, and maintain enterprise analytics solutions using Oracle Analytics Server (OAS) and Oracle Data Integrator (ODI). You will collaborate closely with business stakeholders, data architects, and analysts to deliver high-quality dashboards, reports, and scalable data pipelines that support critical business decisions.

The ideal candidate has strong expertise in SQL, data modeling, and ETL/ELT development, along with hands-on experience optimizing performance and ensuring data quality. This role also involves managing end-to-end data pipelines and supporting analytics infrastructure. Experience with WebLogic Server administration and modern data visualization tools is a plus.

Job Description

Oracle Analytics Server (OAS) Development:

  • Design, develop, and implement complex reports, dashboards, and interactive visualizations using Oracle Analytics Server (OAS) and its components (e.g., Data Visualization, Dashboards, Analyses, BI Publisher).
  • Build and manage OAS RPD models (Physical, Business Model and Mapping, Presentation Layers) to optimize data accessibility and performance.
  • Configure and administer OAS security, including RPD and catalog security, object permissions, and user/group management.
  • Troubleshoot and optimize OAS performance, including report rendering, data refresh, and query execution.
  • Collaborate with business users and stakeholders to gather requirements, translate them into technical specifications, and deliver effective analytical solutions.

Oracle Data Integrator (ODI) Development:

  • Design, develop, test, and deploy robust and scalable ETL/ELT processes using Oracle Data Integrator (ODI).
  • Create and optimize ODI mappings, procedures, packages, and scenarios to extract, transform, and load data from various source systems (relational databases, flat files, APIs, etc.) into target data warehouses and data marts.
  • Implement data quality checks, error handling, auditing, and reconciliation mechanisms within ODI processes.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot ODI execution, resolve data integration issues, and ensure data integrity and accuracy.
  • Work with data architects to design and implement efficient data models within the data warehouse.

SQL Expertise & Data Analysis:

  • Write complex, high-performance SQL queries for data extraction, transformation, analysis, and reporting against large datasets in Oracle databases.
  • Perform advanced SQL tuning and optimization (e.g., using EXPLAIN PLAN, indexes, partitioning) to enhance query and ETL performance.
  • Apply strong data analysis skills to understand data patterns, identify anomalies, and derive actionable insights from various data sources.
  • Collaborate with business analysts and data scientists to support their data needs and facilitate advanced analytical initiatives.
  • Develop and maintain clear and comprehensive documentation for SQL queries, data models, and ETL processes.

Data Pipeline Management:

  • Play a key role in designing, building, and maintaining end-to-end data pipelines that ensure timely, accurate, and reliable data flow for analytics and reporting.
  • Implement best practices for data governance, data security, and data lineage within the data pipeline.
  • Automate data pipeline processes for efficiency and scalability.

WebLogic Server Administration (Mid-Level) --- PREFERRED/DESIRED:

  • Install, configure, and maintain Oracle WebLogic Server domains for OAS and ODI deployments.
  • Monitor WebLogic Server health, performance, and resource utilization, and perform basic troubleshooting.
  • Deploy and manage applications (OAS, ODI agents) on WebLogic Server.
  • Assist with WebLogic patching, upgrades, and security configurations.
  • Understand and apply basic WebLogic clustering, high availability, and disaster recovery concepts.
  • Experience with Cloud Infrastructure and its data services.
  • Knowledge of other data visualization tools (e.g., DV, Tableau & Power BI).
  • Experience with scripting languages (e.g., Shell, Python) for automation.
  • Familiarity with Agile development methodologies.
  • Oracle certifications related to OAS, ODI, or Database.
