Oracle DevOps Engineer

Role Summary

We are looking for a motivated and solution-oriented Oracle DevOps Engineer to join our Database Platform team. This role is ideal for someone who combines strong engineering instincts with a passion for automation and continuous improvement.

The successful candidate will work closely with Oracle database specialists and platform engineers to automate operational processes, improve platform reliability, and deliver scalable solutions across the Oracle estate. We are less concerned with deep expertise in every Oracle technology from day one and more interested in finding someone who is curious, technically strong, and able to analyze problems, identify opportunities for improvement, and build practical automation solutions.

This is a hands-on engineering role where you will be expected to challenge manual processes, develop automation, and help evolve the Oracle platform using DevOps principles.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain automation solutions for Oracle database administration and platform operations.
  • Write and maintain Ansible playbooks, roles, and automation workflows.
  • Develop Python and shell scripts to automate operational tasks, reporting, monitoring, and remediation activities.
  • Analyze recurring operational issues and transform manual procedures into reliable, reusable automation.
  • Support Oracle database platforms, including installation, configuration, patching, health checks, and lifecycle management.
  • Collaborate with DBAs, infrastructure teams, and application teams to deliver scalable platform solutions.
  • Contribute to CI/CD pipelines and Infrastructure-as-Code practices.
  • Participate in problem management, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation, operational procedures, and automation standards.
  • Help drive a DevOps culture focused on efficiency, reliability, and operational excellence.

Required Skills & Experience

  • 3-7 years of experience in a systems engineering, DevOps, platform engineering, or database engineering role.
  • Experience developing automation using Ansible.
  • Programming or scripting experience with Python, Shell scripting, or similar technologies.
  • Experience working in Linux environments.
  • Familiarity with source control systems such as Git and collaborative development practices.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to identify repetitive work and engineer practical solutions to eliminate manual effort.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.

Oracle Database Experience

We are open to candidates with varying levels of Oracle experience provided they demonstrate strong automation and engineering capabilities.

Ideal candidates will have experience with some of the following:

  • Oracle Database Administration
  • Oracle RAC
  • Oracle Data Guard
  • Enterprise Manager
  • Database performance analysis and tuning
  • Backup and recovery concepts
  • Database patching and upgrade activities

Training and mentorship will be provided to help successful candidates build their Oracle DBA expertise, platform knowledge, and database engineering skills. We welcome candidates with strong automation and DevOps backgrounds who are eager to learn and grow in the Oracle database domain.

Desired Experience

  • Jenkins, CloudBees, GitHub Actions, or other CI/CD platforms.
  • Infrastructure-as-Code and configuration management.
  • Monitoring and observability tooling.
  • REST APIs and automation integrations.
  • Experience supporting mission-critical production environments.

What Success Looks Like

  • Taking complex or repetitive Oracle operational tasks and transforming them into reliable, reusable automation.
  • Building and maintaining high-quality Ansible playbooks, Python tooling, and automation frameworks that reduce manual effort and operational risk.
  • Proactively identifying inefficiencies and working with DBAs and platform engineers to deliver practical improvements.
  • Increasing the consistency, scalability, and reliability of database platform operations.
  • Demonstrating ownership from problem identification through solution implementation.
  • Continuously expanding your Oracle database knowledge while applying engineering and DevOps practices to modernize platform operations.
  • Becoming someone the team relies on to turn operational challenges into sustainable technical solutions.
