Job description

Director of Access, Belonging and Culture

At Marymount University, we believe meaningful work happens when talented people come together with shared purpose. We serve not only our studentsโ€”but one anotherโ€”creating a culture where teamwork, adaptability, and resilience are part of everyday practice.

Located in Arlington, Virginia, just minutes from Washington, D.C., Marymount offers a dynamic and forward-looking environment where innovation is encouraged and flexibility is valued. We understand that higher education is evolving, and we embrace change with creativity, responsiveness, and a solutions-oriented mindset.

Our faculty and staff thrive in a community that prioritizes communication, cross-functional collaboration, and service-driven leadership. Whether working directly with students or supporting them behind the scenes, every role contributes to a shared mission: helping students grow, succeed, and lead with purpose and confidence.

We are seeking an experienced Director of Access, Belonging and Culture to provide senior-level leadership for institutional efforts that advance equitable access, inclusive excellence, and global engagement within a higher education setting. The Director oversees disability and accommodations support services; international student support, including visa and immigration compliance; and cultural and global education initiatives.

This position ensures compliance with federal regulations, promotes inclusive campus practices, and leads assessment-driven program development to enhance student learning, persistence, and success. The Director reports to the Vice Provost.

The Director serves as a campus leader and subject-matter expert in disability access, international student support, and cultural education, working collaboratively with faculty, staff, and senior leadership to support the institution's mission and strategic priorities.

Essential Duties and Functions

Strategic Leadership and Administration

  • Provide vision, leadership, and administrative oversight for the Division of Access, Belonging, and Culture.
  • Develop and implement strategic goals aligned with institutional mission, accreditation standards, and student success initiatives.
  • Supervise and evaluate professional and support staff, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Serve on institutional committees and task forces related to access, student success, inclusion, and global engagement.

Disability Access and Accommodations

  • Oversee disability support services, ensuring the timely and equitable provision of reasonable accommodations for students.
  • Ensure institutional compliance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and related federal and state regulations.
  • Develop, implement, and review policies and procedures related to accessibility, accommodations, and grievance processes.
  • Provide consultation and guidance to faculty and staff regarding inclusive instructional practices and accessibility standards.

International Student Support and Visa Compliance

  • Direct international student services, including orientation, advising, retention initiatives, and cultural adjustment support.
  • Ensure compliance with federal immigration regulations, including SEVIS and F-1/J-1 visa requirements.
  • Collaborate with admissions, academic units, and student services to support international student recruitment, enrollment, and success.

Cultural and Global Education

  • Lead the development and implementation of cultural education and global learning initiatives that promote belonging, intercultural competence, and global awareness.
  • Partner with academic departments and co-curricular units to integrate cultural and global perspectives into the student experience.
  • Support campus-wide programming that fosters cross-cultural dialogue and inclusive community building.

Budget Management and Assessment

  • Develop, manage, and monitor departmental budgets, including forecasting, resource allocation, and fiscal accountability.
  • Lead program assessment and evaluation efforts, using qualitative and quantitative data to measure outcomes and inform decision-making.
  • Prepare reports for senior leadership, accreditation, and external reviews related to access, compliance, and student services.

Qualifications/Competencies/Skills

Required Qualifications

Master's degree in Higher Education Administration, Student Affairs, Counseling, Social Work, Education, or related field (Doctorate preferred).

  • Minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible experience in disability support services, including supervisory and leadership experience in higher education.
  • Demonstrated expertise in Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, ADA, and related federal accessibility laws and regulations.
  • Experience with budget planning, fiscal management, and resource allocation in a higher education setting.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, including staff supervision, performance evaluation, and professional development.
  • Proven knowledge and experience in program assessment, outcomes measurement, and continuous improvement.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience overseeing or working closely with international student services and visa/immigration compliance.
  • Experience leading cultural, diversity, or global education initiatives in a college or university environment.
  • Familiarity with accreditation standards related to student support services.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong understanding of student development theory and inclusive pedagogy.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse student populations, faculty, staff, and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated commitment to access, belonging, and equity in higher education.
