Job description

Overview
Directly reporting to the Director of Clinical Education with a dotted line to the Executive Assistant Dean of Clinical Affairs, the Director of Intake & Screening at the Touro College of Dental Medicine's clinic in Albuquerque, New Mexico will monitor the patient intake process, review referrals, and provide general student support in the clinics as it pertains to doctor/patient interactions and overall clinic operations.
Responsibilities
  • Monitor the comprehensive intake process of gathering dental history, medical history and dental needs.
  • Reviews patient referrals as conducted by student dentists.
  • Determines & delegates emergency treatments when necessary.
  • Initiate and guide student doctor/patient interaction and assist in transition to clinical practice.
  • Determine if new patients qualify, to be patients in our predoctoral program.
  • Evaluating all needs to determine Comprehensive Treatment Plan.
  • Monitor individual student development of treatment plans.
  • Model and advise students on professionalism and patient management techniques.
  • Assist the Patient Care Coordinators in solving patient related problems.
  • Review, on a regular basis, where appropriate, each student's performance.
  • Determination of individual student needs and related time utilization.
  • Aid in creating the clinic roster, with special attention to student/patient pairing consistency and delegating appropriate coverage to other clinics if need be.
  • Report instances of misconduct to the Executive Assistant Dean of Clinical Affairs and /or Director of Clinical Education.
  • Assisting with calibration of clinical faculty in:
    1. Ensuring clinical protocols are being followed in all areas.
    2. Infection Control Compliance
    3. Complete Reviews of student activity as required.
    4. Oversee Clinical Formative and Summative Examination Process
  • Attend periodic meetings with other Directors or CPL's.
  • Possible Membership on the Clinical Policy Committee.
  • Possible Membership on the Year 3,4 Student Academic Promotion Review Committee (SPRAC 3-4).
  • In addition, the Director will ensure that any clinical issues are resolved and that there is proper administrative support/coverage. Delegating or assisting as needed.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications
  • D.D.S./DMD from a CODA-accredited dental school or equivalent.
  • Dental License Registration; must be eligible for licensure in the state of New Mexico.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous teaching experience preferred
  • DEA number.
  • Board Eligible or Certified.
  • Engagement and familiarity in curriculum development and digital dentistry technology and experience in faculty calibration.
  • A high degree of interpersonal competency: Professionalism, diplomacy, judgement and discretion required.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop positive and cooperative relationships with students, faculty and colleagues.
  • Ability to organize tasks and delegate as necessary.
