Willamette Valley Cancer Institute is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Medical Assistant to join our clinical team in the Eugene/Springfield area. As a vital member of our collaborative care team, the Medical Assistant plays a key role in supporting patient care and enhancing the overall patient experience.

The general pay scale for this position at WVCI is $20.00-$36.87. The actual hiring rate is dependent on many factors, including but not limited to: prior work experience, education, job/position responsibilities, location, work performance, internal equity, etc.

Responsibilities
  • Patient Data Collection: Accurately take and record patient information during each physician visit, including but not limited to vital signs, updates to medications and allergies, depression screenings, smoking status, activity levels, and patient and family health history.
  • Electronic Health Records (EHR): Document patient interactions and clinical data accurately in the EHR system, maintaining confidentiality and compliance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Room Preparation & Maintenance: Prepare exam rooms before patient visits and ensure cleanliness and proper stocking of medical supplies.
  • Coordination of Care: Facilitate biopsy requests, genetic testing requisition, outside lab orders, imaging requests and misc. orders.
  • Order Follow-Up: Monitor and follow up on medical orders to ensure they are scheduled within the requested time frame, helping maintain timely and coordinated patient care.
  • Clinical Support: Assist physicians and nursing staff with in-office procedures, exams, and treatments, ensuring a smooth and efficient workflow.
  • Patient Communication: Provide clear and compassionate communication to patients regarding procedures, instructions, and follow-up care.
  • Patient Escorting: Escort patients to and from exam rooms, treatment areas, and other departments as needed, ensuring comfort, safety, and timely transitions throughout their visit.
  • Chart Preparation: Perform chart prep for upcoming patient appointments by reviewing and organizing relevant clinical information to ensure providers have the necessary documentation for efficient and informed visits.
  • Message & Portal Monitoring: Monitor the chart message queue and patient portal, responding to patient calls and messages promptly to assist with questions, concerns, and coordination with outside facilities.
  • Provider Communication: Maintain excellent communication with providers by keeping them informed of patient concerns, schedule changes, and other relevant updates to support seamless care delivery.

Qualifications
  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • 1-3 years of experience
  • Experience with refill protocols in clinic or hospital setting strongly preferred
  • Certificate of graduation from an accredited program for Medical Assistants or NCMA certification preferred
  • Current BCLS certification required within 3 months of hire
